My Wanda Skill Tree idea! c:

Recommended Posts

Very in depth, the art is amazing, I also love Overclocking

As a licensed loot hoarder, saving inventory space is always welcome

For young blood II, I think it would be better to slightly buff it actually, instead the ageless watch buff could work for both young and slightly old age variants, I don't know how that would work in practice, however, so take what I say with a grain of salt

May I ask why there is no lunar affinity?

it's Wanda, what did you expect? do you think the shadows would let her get close to that stuff? she's practically dating Charlie she wouldn't let her get close to those lunar stuff

the serious answer is because she made a deal with the shadows for her power, well, a curse is a better word for it, and shadow and lunar forces don't mix well... so although from her quotes it's very obvious that she wants to "make another deal with another mysterious entity" as she puts it, it seems like she can't

Could you explain when the “curse” or “deal” happened and what it is as I’ve never heard of it.

And couldn’t she replace shadow magic with lunar magic making something like a new time fragment recipe using moon glass and thulcite fragments?

a lot of her quotes suggest that, I don't wanna list all of them, but if you check her examine quotes for most lunar related materials like moonrock or pure brilliance, or specifically the monkeys paw trinket if you wanna see a little bit of lore on why she chose to curse herself :)

I have a couple suggestions

what if her shadow alignment, good father used to give the shadow hand that fused with her like a clock hand in someway

I know this isn’t a Wendy skill tree but what if was a skill or an Easter egg part of a different allowed? Wanted to be able to temporarily bring up go back to life if Wendy has blessed sisturn 3 unlocked and the respective flower is in the sisturn

also, I think she should have a lunar alignment because I feel like only having one alignment wormwood, and Maxwell exclusive

I didn’t see any quotes mentioning a curse. The closest thing to a curse is that lunar magic can’t work with her clocks; but that’s probably because all her clocks are made of shadow magic and doesn’t know how to make one with lunar magic.

well, maybe I described it wrong, it's less of a curse and more of a contract/deal
Gestalt- "Would making a deal with another mysterious entity be pushing my luck?" (implies that she wants to make another deal but she is unsure if she can handle the consequences, also implies that she already has made a  deal with an entity separate from lunar, most probably the shadows)
Monkey Paw- "There's no need to be afraid of curses if you're clever enough to outsmart them." (this isn't related to lunar magic but having this mindset is probably the reason that she chose to make a deal with "a mysterious entity" in the first place)
Moon Shard- "It would make a perfect watch crystal, if only it played nice with shadow magic." (this implies that since near all of her powers come from her contract with the shadows/some shadow related entity, she can't effectively use lunar magic for her clocks)
Pure Brilliance- "If only I could use it to power one of my watches... oh well." (same this as the one above)
Moon Dial (generic)- "Why worry about the moon? I've got enough to contend with down here." (a bit unrelated but it shows how she's so busy with her current contract and tasks that she doesn't even consider the moon, yet another reason for her to not alight with it)
"Moon" Figure- "Just look up if you want to see the moon. Actually, better not." (this shows that she realizes that the moon is another entity similar to the shadows
Lunar Grimoire- "Do we really want to tamper with the moon? Oh, who am I to talk?" (this proves again that not only has she Tampered with something (most likely time/shadow magic) before but similar to the first mentioned quote, she is worried of doing it again)
these are all the quotes that I could find that kind of supported the fact that she can't make a deal with the moon, at least for now, who knows what Klei will do next, be it Game play  or  lore.

I may have misunderstood the monkey paw trinket as the cursed trinket from moon quay but thanks for explaining it.

I could understand why she would just focus on shadow magic rn though I do see the possibility of her learning to use lunar magic in new clocks. I could also understand if she just got a shadow alignment though it would be cool if she got some lunar clocks.

By the way, great job man! This is some serious dedication and I think everyone appreciates that.

However, my concerns are:

  • Why are there so many new clocks added? She already got a bunch of clocks. And if you want them to use the new 5 inventory slots for them, then you're just forcing the player to use a skill in the tree as a consequence of another skill, which is not a very great design in my opinion.
  • Some skills here are very underwhelming, like.. Fear after reviving could made enemies asleep instead. And being able to fuel things with pure horror is not really an upgrade, but rather something that should be implemented outside of her skill tree. Having skills for these seem like a waste to me.

Now I do like young blood skills, but the name might be too graphic for the game -maybe-.

The idea of acquiring bosses lost "soul" is very nice indeed, but how would that make sense with wortox's souls? I think this mechanic would be better explained if it rather acquired their life time, and as a consequence, every boss enemy would take some damage per hit instead, like she's draining their life time. Life steal could even be implemented as well.

Wanda is a character that already has a bunch of items, so it's better to think of a more practical skill tree for her. Something that players would actually enjoy on her that are themed behind her health. Some interesting mechanics put to mitigate some of her downsides is not a bad idea, since she's kind of harsh to play, but it shouldn't be TOO much. We should think of what Wanda lacks, rather than what she could get. She is indeed a very strong character.

I like that you presented this issue with overheating and freezing damage, she really could get that skill.

If I could design a skill tree for wanda, I would have to at least complete the whole game 3 times, and practice all boss fights until I actually get the feel of her, so I can't really put my finger on what's great or not for her.

I can speculate however, that most people that play her want the power that comes with using her alarming clock, and that's something I think was not addressed as well as it could've been.

So for that I would probably suggest to increase her alarming clock planar damage, so that it at least can be around 25% better than a regular scythe.

Now that I think about, it's a great idea for both Wanda and Maxwell to allow them to benefit from the void cowl's ramping buff in their own ways. Like making shadow duelists deal more damage overtime, and make the alarming clock stack with planar overtime too.
