Why would you ever continue a hunt after seeing warning signs

For example the tooth in a dirtplle or dog prints near a dirt pile,ewecus drops do have some uses but i dont see why starting a fight with a varg would aid you in getting food

Vargs have their uses. Gem farms, namely, or hound teeth if you need those. Also, possessed vargs are a thing now. 

Some characters can eat monster meat with little to no downside, so it's directly a food source (although a way harder one that's not really worth the effort). 
All the non-Wurts can still get food out of it by just converting the monster meat into eggs or using it in a crock pot with three fillers for meatballs.
