On Maxwell’s skill tree

Recommended Posts

My fear at the moment is that when Maxwell finally gets a skill tree it’s going to be bloated with stat buffs like faster chopping/mining speed for servants or stronger duelists.

I think the best skill trees are ones that offer new crafting recipes or abilities. I have a few ideas that don’t involve any stat changes (mostly).

maxwell can link two magicians hats and pull himself out of one through another. Basically a lazy deserter that doesn’t require a second player. Maybe one of them could lose half its durability when used to teleport.

Maxwell can turn himself into a shadow for a very very short period of time, allowing him to avoid damage but he cannot interact with or attack anything (maybe let him walk on water like his own servants). He would have increased movements speed as well, but would have a very very high sanity drain.

when wearing a thulicite crown or perhaps a bone helm, Maxwell spawns shadow tentacles when attacked.

maxwell can use pure horror to overcharge his codex umbra. Shadow duelists are stronger. Servants are faster. Spells have larger AOE and last longer.

I think Maxwell should have his spells like cage and snare removed and re added in his skill tree. He should still get new things in his skill tree but Maxwell at base is already stronger than some characters with their trees and I dont know how they could fit a ton more new perks in him without making him bloated or making them nothing but boring number modifiers.

What if he got new skills but at the costs of a DOWNSIDE coming with them? (though this may annoy some players but it would prevent his skilltree to make him an overpowered boring to play character)

Sure this means some people wouldn‘t invest in the skills at all, but others woudln‘t mind the pick-your-poison style

I think they would hav wit be very careful with this because it would be too easy to accidentally make Maxwell totally unplayable with this kind of thing

Also I truly truly thing Maxwell should have some kind of aoe attack that does damage

By „downside“ it should be a tiny thing only of course, not downside (aka selfsabotaging / sabotaging others) as /I/ use in my mod. Just something subtle like e.g. Maxwell getting a TINY situational insanity aura on himself towards the other when he‘s using some skilltree situational (that means if he e.g. uses a temporary spell that used to be „bought“ with insight points in the skilltre before)

Tall Maxwell.
