The game can't find your character's animation file.

Either something has not been renamed correctly and the file has compiled as "esctemplate.zip" (or something that is not "Wirt.zip", like "wirt.zip"), or something has happened to make the autocompiler fail to compile your character.

Double check you've renamed everything correctly and that your autocompiler is actually 1. launching 2. compiling your character. If you're still having problems, try uploading your mod here.

How do I upload my mod here? I redid all of the steps, and now I learned that the auto compiler (The black screen thingy that SHOULD launch when you start the game) is not creating the two zips it needs in the anim folder for the mod to work. The anim folder is just empty entirely.

Convert the mod's folder to a .zip and attach it here. If you are using Windows, you might be able to just right click the mod folder and do Sent to > Zipped Folder.

If you can't do that, you can use a hosting service like Google Drive and post a link to share the folder here.

I have to go to work and won't be home for the next 11 hours or so, so if you upload your mod and nobody else has taken a look at it by the time I get home I'll do it once I'm back.

Your character has compiled properly for me without me doing anything, which is reaaally not what I wanted to see. I was hoping the autocompiler was just failing to compile this file, but it looks like your autocompiler isn't running at all. That's a lot harder for me to help you with unfortunately.

If you go to Steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Mod Tools\mod_tools and try to run the autocompiler from there, does anything happen? Are there any messages?

I also noticed your mod is in a nested folder called "Wirt Mod Folder" (it was in this folder twice for me which is why it caught my attention). This probably isn't the problem and I'm guessing you just moved the folder so you could zip it for me, but just in case, but make sure that in your /mods/ folder you only have your "Wirt" folder in there. The autocompiler is only looking one folder deep to find your files. If you have it sitting in your mods folder as "Wirt mod files/Wirt/[your mod files]" it won't be able to find them.

EDIT: oh and also in the off chance this is a problem, make sure your mod tools and your copy of DST are installed on the same harddrive. I don't think this is the issue but it can cause this problem so I'm mentioning that as well.

Alright, so I have installed the two on the same drive, and I did originally have Wirt in only one folder. I went and finally got the compiler to work (I guess just giving it some time was enough), BUT-- these show up and the compiler fails to generate the files I need. Even after reinstalling the program this persists.

Okay, the issue is that your computer is missing some files that the autocompiler needs to run. These files used to just be a part of Windows, but newer releases don't have them; I had this same issue on my Windows 11 laptop.

I've tried to help someone on the forums with this before and was unable to fix it, so I'll direct you to a help thread directly: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/vcruntime140dll-and-msvcp140dll-missing-in-windows/caf454d1-49f4-4d2b-b74a-c83fb7c38625

Try the solutions both here and in the replies on the page and see if one works for you. If you can get it to work, please let me know what helped so I can redirect people here in the future.

If you absolutely can't get it to work and don't have another computer to try it on, and still want to make your character, you can send your mod over when the art is finished and I'll compile it for you if you want.

(Just in case you need it for the future, here's the version of your mod I have that does not crash. This won't fix your issue, it will just allow you to continue working on your mod if your autocompiler ultimately does not work.)
