I did a no prototypers run

I saw CatPerson trying out something like this on stream a few days ago when I was farming the newest twitch drop, although I don't know if they had a different set of rules.
Mine were: if i can get the recipe from a winona scan, from blueprints or a non prototyping station (ruins / brightsmithy / celestial tab) then it's good to use.

It was a fun challenge! I had done a "nothing" challenge before with Webber (everything was set to 0 in the world gen config)
Winona can learn a lot of recipes from setpieces and boons around the world and even by deconstructing items (like golden pickaxe/axe from pick/axe).

This challenge made me start appreciating some items some more, and miss some others A LOT.

For example: Ice chester! I feel like he's a bit overshadowed, pun intended, by his shadow counterpart. But he can make for a great fridge when you cannot craft one. (plus the added benefit of following you and carrying your cold thermal stones during summer)

I was never a fan of the shield of terror, but it was a good substitute for hambats. I still think it could be buffed to not break if it reaches 0%. Hambats are so easy to craft that the amount of effort it takes to kill twins vs getting an alchemy and 2 meat is not even remotely comparable. (+ the terrarium cooldown!)

Same goes for the eye mask, although I could have scanned football helms in the ruins, I ended up sticking to it to try something new for once. It could maybe get 85% dmg reduction. Less than a thulecite crown or suit, but more than a football helm.

For items I missed the most:
-Lightning rod and it's not even close. Sailing without one during spring rains is a deathwish
They can be replaced by canopy trees for your base, but I couldn't be bothered to farm them and I suffered the consequences.

-Hambat in 2nd place, they would be first place if it weren't for the weapon variety being big enough to not make it that special. Tentacle spikes and thulecite bats already surpass the 50 dmg threshold.

-Eyebrella and iceboxes are a tie for 3rd place. As mentioned before, Ice chester can replace an ice box, and charlie's stage can give you an umbrella which is good enough to keep yourself dry.

The only recipe you *actually* need is the bugnet for a firefly to fix pearl's house and collect the moongleams during the moonstorms. Nevertheless, its blueprint can be farmed through tumbleweeds, oasis fishing or even from the scrapyard (or get lucky with terrarium chest and have one there to scan)

You can even transmute recipes with a ghost. I actually changed a few blueprints until I found something that I liked. I used this trick to get these blueprints:
-Bugnet (needed)
-Nightmare amulet (useful for AFW)
-Moonlens (allows you to repair the celestial portal)
-Eyebrella
-Ice box (didn't use it because I had chester)
-Stone walls (I didn't use them since I had thulecite walls)

If anyone is interested in doing this, here are some tips:

Spoiler

-Get fashion goggles and a thermal stone from a sunken chest asap. HIGH priority.
-Sail to moonquay to acquire a permanent boat asap (unless you want to deal with marotters' boats on the shore / grass rafts that need repairing)
-Try to get a canopy tree seed grown before spring (prime mates can give you a tree jam that you can scan)
-Don't waste blueprints to learn items you can find on the world!. For example: You can get cut stone and boards from pig houses and ropes from tumbleweeds which can all be scanned.
-Prioritize killing twins of terror or shadow pieces for a good weapon.
(twins can be handled by enraged klaus if you're bad at that fight like me, otherwise just one catapult on a boat can take care of the shadow knight for you)
-The Hotlight perk is very good to keep yourself warm/cold if you still haven't found a thermal on a sunken chest.
-If you didn't get lucky with the scrapyard for electrical doodads, you can befriend catcoons! They can give you the first two electrical doodads to craft the inspectacles (you'll be swimming in them after getting them). They can also drop a living bird if you get lucky and find a birdcage blueprint.
-Farm Charlie's stage loot early on until you get all of its possible drops.
-Base near dragonfly's desert / a wormhole that takes you there so you can farm blueprints from tumbleweeds often.
-Explore mainland early on and be on the lookout for boons such as the crockpot boon and the fishing boon (useful for pearl's quest).
-You can scan klaus' bundles and save yourself a bee queen fight (although winona doesn't have much problem with her grumble bees).
-Events can give you neat items

And finally, if a klei dev reads this:
- It'd be nice to get a lantern and a bugnet from the stage! I don't think they'd be too op considering the stage has similar useful drops (a miner hat / a backpack & shovel). Also maybe a thermal stone, though it would only be useful past day 20 unlike the rest of the stage items.

-Adding the fashion goggles to the scrapyard would make sense thematically since wagstaff is all about goggles and they are already used in the inspectacles recipe (and also make this challenge easier/less RNG dependant).

-Make pearl's drying racks and bee boxes scannable for Winona! Maybe even the ancient kilns. She can already learn the replica furniture, I don't see why she couldn't learn those other ones.

-Same goes for the stone walls in the archives, although apparently any wall that is already placed cannot be scanned.

What do you mean transmute blueprints? Haunting them? Does that change them?

And why are you talking about Winona scans but Wolfgang is in the picture?

I did a scienceless run a while back with a friend on Switch. It started as a scienceless ruins. We used ruins stations and post rift stations.

The bugnet is definitely the limiting factor. Rope is an issue too. We found very little rope. We needed to decon stuff for it.

I used Wilson he used Woodie. We had some crappy set piece Gen too so shadow pieces were a nightmare.

Other than that, as you mentioned, cut stone can be grabbed from houses or ruins. Shield of terror is invaluable.

We got rope by deconstructing the tackle box. You could also decon some of the stuff you get from the stage.

I spent most of the time with a mag, anyways, and had Wilson's torch. So I didn't miss the lantern/miners hat.

We had no idea regarding bugnet so we turned wilderness on, died once, and used Wicker to learn the bugnet recipe.

I got lucky with healing salve BP early on.

Tree, sunken treasure, and stage hand help a lot. You really need an umbrella for spring.

Wilson's torch skills were really nice. Since I wasn't expecting to play that long, I did all torch skills and forgot what else but didn't get the transmute skill unfortunately.

Since my friend was Woodie we used glass cutters quite a bit.

Ice chester was definitely very helpful.

We used thul and dreadstone walls for moon event.

Post update I see moon even being more tedious.

Yes

I was starting to get a bit bored so after opening the rifts I decided to switch to wolfgang after acquiring the moonlens blueprint. The last bosses (AFW, Toadstool, Bearger/armored bearger and varg /mutated varg) I killed with him.

Mainly because at that point I was barely scanning any new useful recipes.

If by moon event you mean transforming the starcaller staff, you can either use structures / boulders, canopy tree seeds or suspicious marble pieces to block the entrance.

For the moonstorm, wagstaff gives you the astroggles which can be crafted with just one potato

Potatoes have a chance to drop from the scrap yard or you can farm them since the stage gives farming loot, including the garden digamajig and a hoe.

Yes, isn't the moon event always referring to that?

Moonstorms were easy because we got goggles from sunken treasure.

Thanks for the blueprint tip. Wish I knew of that sooner.

In our run, the only useful blueprints we found that weren't guaranteed were the bird cage and healing salves.
