Wurt Skill Three

Recommended Posts

Hi Klei, I know it's kind of late to talk about Wurt's skill tree, but only after playing a lot with her did I notice some improvements or possible changes to her skill tree.

First, I apologize in advance for writing this text in Portuguese and inserting some English elements and asking an AI to translate it for me. So some sentences may not make much sense.

I'm a passionate player of Wurt, I would even say she's my main character that I spend hours playing with. I have 2,000 hours of Don't Starve Together, and I can say that a thousand hours were spent playing with Wurt.

Starting with the Amphibian tab: Mental Fluidity 1 and 2: I feel that Wurt has few sanity penalties that would require a skill to increase sanity when wet. I understand that a wet Merm would be happy and increase sanity, but I think it would be better to have a skill that makes Wurt get wet over time. All Merms are naturally wet, so it would be interesting to have a skill where Wurt, for example, produces sweat when exposed to the sun to protect her skin from violet rays, which would explain why Merms are wet creatures. Besides, keeping Wurt wet is very laborious and becomes less interesting in this tab.

All-Weather Scales: I really like this skill because it solves the problem of wanting to stay wet with Wurt, as it would cause temperature issues. But if you add the idea of Wurt getting wet over time, winter would become a problem as she would always be wet. So, my idea, if you accept the previous suggestion, would be to have an item that Wurt could apply to her skin to reduce the impact of cold when she is wet, like an anti-freezing cream.

Slippery Hide 1 and 2: I really like this skill, it surprised me. But as I mentioned before, it is very laborious to get wet and it ends up making this skill less useful. There are three "viable" ways to get wet in the game: rain, but it is more frequent in spring or you end up depending on a Wickerbottom with the rain book, but rain affects all other players and some even choose Wickerbottom to stop the rain; the second way is to jump from a boat, but the animation of jumping in and out of the water takes a long time and you could spend that time doing something else; and the third way is to use a water balloon, but it takes up an inventory slot and you always need to go to a pond to refill it, not to mention that 20 water balloons are not enough to be viable to carry around. Also, Embalming Spritz becomes a priority for players like me who like to build mega bases.

Hydrous Healing 1 and 2: I don't have much to say about this skill. Health has never been a problem for me when playing as Wurt, but I know that beginner players like to have a passive way to regenerate health. However, if you add a passive way for Wurt to get wet, this skill would become very overpowered, as many players would say. So, what I can suggest is a skill where Wurt dries herself like a wet dog and everything around her gets wet, allowing her to extinguish fires, for example.

Now, about the Mermdom tab: Mosquito Incognito: I think it would be interesting to have a mosquito repellent and be able to give this item to other players. However, I think it would be more interesting if it were a consumable item rather than an item that takes up an inventory slot and deteriorates over time. It could be an ointment that acts as a mosquito repellent for 5 minutes and that we could apply to the Merms following us.

Itchcraft 1 and 2: I like the fact that they added more items that can be used with the Mosquito Sack, but a mosquito bomb seems very useless and few players would use it since mosquitoes only deal damage when they explode. My suggestion for this would be to create another weapon using the Mosquito Sack, for example, a dart that could be made or brought along with the Tentacle Spike, which is an impractical weapon for experienced players but could become more useful when combined with the Mosquito Sack. I'm not sure exactly what to suggest, but I don't like the mosquito bomb.

Delivery item quests for the Merm King: I like these skill trees, but only the marble armor and trident affect Wurt. The crown doesn't affect her because she is a character controlled by us and doesn't need intelligence for battle. But it would be nice to add more resistance to her by delivering the crown, just like the marble armor. Also, it should be specified in the skill tree that delivering these items to the Merm King also affects Wurt. Many players who have probably tested these skill trees superficially know that the armor reduces the damage taken by Wurt and the trident increases her damage.

Sated Sovereign 1, 2, and 3: I love these skills. Keeping the Merm King fed was a hassle, and with this skill, his hunger lasts 15 days in the game, which is equivalent to 2 hours in real life. It's great, no complaints about this skill.

Sensible Swamp Fighter: I like this skill, no complaints.

Community Feeder 1 and 2: If there's a level 2 that is better, why would I use level 1? The same goes for Industrious Merm and Hardheaded. I feel like they are only there to spend skill points. I don't see any use for level 1 unless it's just for decoration, but visually, level 2 looks nicer.

Swap Pathfinder: I don't see any use for this skill, I think it only exists to combo with the light and shadow staves. If it were a skill where feeding the Merm King increases Wurt's speed on any surface, it would be enjoyable to keep the Merm King fed.

Light and Shadows: I like the idea of having light and shadow Merms, but the staves are a problem. It could be a weapon like the Brightsahde Sword or the Shadow Reaper, where by combining Pure Brilliance or Pure Horror with a Trident, they could be transformed into unique weapons for Wurt, just like the Brambleshade Armor that only Wormwood can use. These weapons could be used in combat and could also be repaired with repair kits. And if you wanted to transform the Merms, it would consume their durability. Also, the global cooldown is very annoying. There's no need to modify the area with swamp tiles, just buff the Merm followers and it will be fine. (Also, the new Trident skin being able to transform it into light and shadows would be beautiful).

Now, some ideas for skills that are not in the skill tree: Merms have an affinity for fish, so why not have a ground fishing Merm or a fishing rod for Wurt that makes it easier to fish for sea fish? It would also be nice to have fish to deliver to the Merm King.
