Mysterious seeds growth mechanics

I’m still quite confused by their growth mechanics. I have three seeds planted and sprouting, and it’s been about a year now since I planted them. I know they spout in specific seasons, summer is almost over and my sproutrock trees still haven’t grown past their sapling stage. 
 

is there something I’m missing, is it bugged? Klei did release an update to their growth right after I planted them so could that have broken something?

From what I recall, each one requires to be planted on a specific turf (I think that they are the sandy and marsh ones).

Rocky and marsh if you examine them they will tell you if it's the correct turf for that plant and there is also a seasonal requirement which is also told by examination
