Is it too late to revamp the concept of skillsets?

I'm not sure if we're already too far in this, but I believe skillsets could be easily simplified and improved if
1. All the "incremental" skills are merged into one (skills that just progressively improve a stat in percentages, for example, Wilson's Torch Longevity skills)
...and 2. Dump the "Insight" concept entirely, and all skills are required to be weaved together via the use of spools.

I've only ever viewed skillsets as bonus character updates locked behind skipping 90 in-game days, and I never really understood why they made Insight work how it does, but I feel unlocking skills by actually using spools makes the overall process simpler, while also providing another purpose for spools outside cosmetics.

Have a crudely made mock-up of what this would possibly look like.
