[BUG] NPCs disappeared from basecamp

Suddenly, I don't know when, Berna (armourer) and Hamish (blacksmith) disappeared from my camp and now I can't upgrade my gear at all, even if I restart the game.
I would not like to be forced to create a new character.

This could help you recover your progress (all your items, loot, masteries, current gear upgrades, etc. will remain untouched):

1. Go to your Rotwood save folder
   • In windows, that's under C:\Users\<yourprofile>\AppData\Roaming\Klei\Rotwood\steam-123456789101112\saves\cloud\slot_1
2. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SAVE NOW
3. In the slot_1 folder, delete 'town'
   • With cloud saves enabled, you might have to delete it after launching the game and while you're in the main menu (because the game may attempt to download your backup file online while launching) 
4. Load your character. You should now be sent back to the first dungeon encounter, with Flitt's first dialogue.

Doing the above resets your town to the point before you've met either Berna or Hamish; so you will have to find them again in the dungeons to re-unlock them. This will keep you from completely restarting your progress, though.
