Keep map exploration on death in solo Wilderness?

I love exploring the same world as different characters every time I die, but updating the map at the cartographers desk *before* dying is a challenge.  I thought the Global Positions mod would solve this, but maybe I'm not using it right?  Or is multiplayer WITH global positions the only way to do this?

Also, you can't erase maps at the cartographers desk?  Do you just burn the old ones?  I read an old one and it made me forget where I had placed some spider mounds.

Global Positions works for this IF you have it installed and set up properly before creating a new world.
