As the title says, my custom survivor's sprites refuse to work with the game. When using the default sample name, it uses Extended Sample Character's appearance. With everything renamed properly, my character appears invisible. Everything else about it works in both cases, stats, speech, starting items, etc. Just not the sprites. I know it's not a missing file issue because the sample named case got pasted directly on top of a copy of the Workshop version of ESCT. Spriter shows everything nicely in place too.

Here is the dude in a mega folder with everything . It's the non renamed version. First time modding DST so maybe I am just missing something. Cheers.

Hello! The problem is your character is not compiling properly. Here is the error in the compiler for reference.

Any changes you're making are not being updated due to this.

The problem is that the sprites in your hairpigtails folder have a bit depth of 8 and not 32. (This is usually the problem with this cryptic error message.)

Copy and paste the hairpigtail sprites in "esctemplate_cleared" to replace the ones you have, and the character should compile. Hope this helps!

Done, but still no dice. Took the time to check every sprite I made and they are all 32, no idea what else could it be picking up that isn't 32 because I haven't edited anything else. EXCEPT for the preview.png, which I found out it had a bit depth of 4 for some reason. I saved it with 32 bit depth and still no.

In the meantime, I will check if using a copy of the unedited template char and directly editing each sprite instead of replacing with the files I already made fixes anything.

Update, still nothing. Renamed everything and character still is invisible, just as described in first post. I have the feeling the template itself might be broken, because the Workshop version of ESC seems to have the same issue, none of my edits appear in it. Maybe I should try my luck with the version in Github?

That's really weird - I actually got your characer to compile fine and checked him in-game to make sure he worked before I made my post. I only replaced the hairpigtail files and changed nothing else.

Very sorry to hear it didn't work on your end. :/

I hope replacing the sprites works out for you. You could also try doing it in another art program if yours is saving it in the wrong bit/colour depth.

If you try that and it still doesn't work, I can send you the version of your mod that I have.

Did the replacement. Still no. I would definitively love it if you gave me your version to see if it works on my end too or if the compiler is what is refusing to work.

No problem!

This version of him has already been compiled once, so if you want to check if your compiler is working correctly you'd have to make an edit to one of his sprites and then try compiling him again.

I owe you my life.

After various tests, I found out that what breaks the sprites is the renaming and my art program. I have no idea what Paint.NET does that it breaks them when saving, but I guess I should seek a new program.
