Farsight
I think we all want to see our dupes burn (or is that just me?), so I was wondering how it could work in the current engine, and this is what I came up with: A new element, FIRE. When a flammable material (gas or liquid) is ignited, its tile instantly turns into FIRE of the same mass. Each tick, 1kg of FIRE is consumed, turning into heat and CO2. Each neighboring tile that is flammable is ignited and turns into more FIRE. Only the top layer of liquids can ignite. Any damaged wire or powered building has a chance to 'spark' randomly from time to time. If the spark occurs on a tile with a flammable material, it is ignited. Buildings and wires that are fully submerged in liquid cannot spark. Gravitas buildings do not spark (better tech!). When ignition occurs, if the FIRE is larger than 5kg, it damages any building on its tile an amount proportional to its size. So small gas fires (and farts) won't damage buildings. FIRE wouldn't need to directly damage dupes either, since scalding and the flood of CO2 would be dangerous enough, but a panicked "on fire" fleeing animation would be fun. New buildings that make use on controlled open flames would be fun. A gas lamp (light), fireplace (decor) and incinerator (burn trash) come to mind. New dupe traits as well (pyromaniac = morale boost from seeing fire, arsonist = high stress causes them to set fires... dupes would actually light their farts!). The end result would be that having loose hydrogen and methane in the air would be dangerous, and having loose fuel near electricity would be deadly. Exploring flammable biomes would be a greater challenge. And most importantly, we could set up some immensely amusing "accidental" events!
