[engine optimization] Look into cuda computing

Recommended Posts

I highly suggest that the devs look into kicking some of the computations of the game into multiple cores, threads, and of course cuda cores. Based on my experience in c# and cuda computing theres really no reason not to work with NVIDIA to kick much of the computations onto the gpu. The devs when working with unity and any animating software are optimized to work on gpus for computations when they're developing, but the game on release doesn't touch the cores. This is totally do-able and would make this game probably the single best game for enthusiasts and late game madness. plus it'd make the game run better even on lower end computers. Its actually not as difficult to implement or do, and Nvidia given its long history in game devs probably would be willing to just collab and do much of the work-- i'd presume. For me a student who did machine learning with it, it was free, but for a company might be some sort of fee, but would be massive investment if integrated into their setup.

as for modders, this is also do-able. A mod can be written to kick much of the computing onto a cuda framework. The issue is it wouldn't be prepackaged and ready for anyone to just dl from steam workshop. There is some minor back work required-- something that could be eliminated with an optimization patch to the game.
