I got this issue before. It is indeed linked to Spriter, because it seems animations used by the engine are defined in Spriter by their name.

To solve that issue, open your scml for your custom helmet with spriter. At the bottom right, you should see the "animation" window, with your animations inside. Select your animation and rename it with the exact same name of your helmet.

Example : if your helmet is customHelmet.scml, you should rename the animation "customHelmet" as well. I've used the custom hat example, so don't forget about the swap version too (customHelmet_swap.scml and "customHelmet_swap" for its animation).
