changing the way mods are enabled

Could the way mods are enabled be changed so that it works like Don't Starve Together? It's a bother since restarting the game will result in being on another computer, system or whatever if using a system such as NVIDIA GeForce NOW, which makes the game run on another machine and streams the video to the player and gives remote control. This disallows completely the use of mods, and since my computer is not meant for gaming, I, and many others, I suppose, rely on services such as those to play games. It would be a great help if such a change was made, but if it is too complex or not worth it to some then that is fine.
