jenwwww Posted May 7, 2021 Share Posted May 7, 2021 (This is my first post here and I'm not an English native speaker, so sorry in advance if I've made any mistake ) Hi all, it's been anounced that there'll be a Webber rework this year. However, as a Webber main, I'm quite worried that the rework might make Webber too strong and make him lose his unique traits. The reason I enjoy Webber is that he provides a quite unique perspective, because he loves a LOTS of spider dens, and has to escape from groups of pigs and bunnymen. This is especially so after you've played with "normal" characters who can easily befriend pigs & bunnymen and will destroy as many spider den as he/she can. Though he has a lovely personality and he tries to fit in the group, he is still kind of an outcast. As Webber I usually have to live outside the base because there're too many pigs in the base, or because people hate my spiders LOL. This unique experience is why I love Webber, and I'm worried that Klei may change them in the rework. Previous rework generally make characters stronger and more suitable for teamwork. However, I'm worried Webber will be less special if he can easily compensate his weakness and fit in the group. Here are some suggestions that I've heard but I don't like: Make tools to prevent teammates from being attacked by spiders, like Wurt's clever disguise. This just make the game TOO EASY. Make Shamlet mask to make pigs neutral. Again, this makes everything too easy. Some special techniques to stop tier 3 spider den to become the queen. It will be much less exciting if the spider den is completely under control. ...... I can't really think of anything else, but basically I'll hate any changes that will make Webber's game experience too easy, less special, and more like anyone else. And here are some changes I'll enjoy, because I think they make Webber more unique: Sleep in the spider den. This sounds so natural! Of course Webber should do that. Make spider army stronger. Currently the spider army is just too weak, which makes befriending spider is useless except to start a spider war. Is it possible to "tame" spiders like we tame befaloos, to make them stronger, faster, and easier to control? Special attack mode as spiders, like producing silk to slow down the enemy, or leap like a spider warrior. Special buildings using silk, like silk wall, silk floor, etc. Make special dishes using monster meat! Monster lasagna is just a waste of monster meat, and moster tartare is not any better. This makes cooking less attractive for Webber, and I hope that could change. Some other minor changes that I'll appreciate: Make befriended spider neutral to Chest and Hatch. It makes the game easier so I'm supposed to hate it, but befriended spiders attacking Chest & Hatch is just so annoying. Currently Webber seems to be hostile to spiders. That is, I may attack a spider using clicking or "F" key. This is pretty annoying if you accidentally attack a spider when fighting other things (like shadow pieces), or just picking something up and accidentally clicking a spider. So, what do you think? Do you agree with my concerns? What are the changes you'll enjoy / dislike? TheJazMaster Posted May 7, 2021 Share Posted May 7, 2021 I mostly agree, though I wouldn't care much about silk flooring or walls. Let anyone craft them, if you ask me. I also think that with Webber around, spiders should not attack other players (instead just look at them funny), so you could actually be around a Webber doing spider things without getting chased relentlessly. I'm surprised you didn't mention the spider wars though. In my opinion, spiders should bring Webber food as gifts instead. Causing civil wars between his friends is probably the most thematically wrong thing in the game, but it's definitely the right way to play him. I also wonder what you think about Webber's human side. Should he have toys? Or he could be good at farming animals, like his quotes suggest? Indeed it doesn't fit Webber's personality, but for now it's the strongest (maybe even the only) advantage of Webber. If the rework can give Webber some other advantages, I'll be happy to see spider civil wars limited (but I don't want to see it completely removed). But I'm not very sure how to limit spider wars. Maybe Webber will lose sanity when attacking spiders, or when seeing too many spiders die? I'd love to see more background story of the human boy Webber and more related skills / techniques. But I think fewer interesting mechanisms can be explored in this aspect than in spiders.
