How does shade work?

Recommended Posts

I always thought if you were under shade, you are just cooler. But I read something that suggests the action of moving under a shade has a cooling effect. Is it better to cool off by moving back and further under trees?

Does size of tree and/or type of tree effect how much shade a tree gives?

Does anything other than trees give shade? Like do boulders give shade for example?

Only the tallest (fully grown) trees provide shelter - from rain or heat. They can be evergreens, lumpy trees, or birchnut trees.

Trees provide a very very minimal amount of protection. They're not meant to act as insulation from the elements, even hopping back-and-forth between them, but rather provide a brief respite as you get wherever you need to get fully warm/cool. If you can combine other element-protection (clothing, fans, etc) with trees, you could then potentially raise or lower your temperature to a normal state.

Nope, none of the rest of the terrain provides shade.
