I read that after Winter it is possible they will despawn and if you keep them captive they never get their antler back. Well I've had them now two Winters, they never despawn and they grow back the antlers. How you ask? Well for me I chased the whole herd into a pen with all but one deer having no antlers. I'm not sure if that is the secret but, I left one alone and soon as Winter came all had regrown back. No I've got a endless supply of antlers, I just go into the pen hit one and they smash into the tree I have planted but I keep one antler deer.
