How does connecting to a server technically works, since there is no need for port forwarding?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I guess when a client attempts to join for example my own public-server, then my server sends the first udp-packet to let bypass the clients packets through my home-router using the "port-restricted cone NAT"-method?

If this is true, then there must be a third-party server (maybe from Klei), who tells my server, which clients want now to join, so my server can send them an "invitation"-packet.

I asking because of security reasons. I was quite suprised that someone joined, because I didn't make any entries for port-fowarding...

Cheers
