[Daily Recaps] Fox News

Recommended Posts

-- NOTE TO ALL - The Recaps are currently on hiatus, due to the lower amount of daily posts. They are - currently - no longer necessary, and have been discontinued for the forseeable future. They will remain up for reference. --

The plea for no other posts bar the Recaps to be here still stands.

-- NOTICE TO ALL - The Recaps are back! They will be fairly infrequent, due to the varying amount of posts/members active in the sub-forum, but I feel at least some notable progress is being made often enough to warrant a return.

Anyway, suppose I've set some sort of record, covering 6 months in one recap, so it's not all bad.

Current Recap of the Day: - [06/04/2014 - 09/04/2014]

Recap of the day. And the day before that. And the day before that. etc. - [06/04/2014-09/04/2014]

Wow, I need to get back into the saddle of these things. I can't come up with stupid titles to cover my laziness forever...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fellowship of the Bean Internal Matters:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- @Lium has been invited to join the Fellowship of the Bean, after an inclusion vote reached a majority of 4-0 in favour.

- He accepted the invitation, and will soon recieve his badge from JoeW, and become a full member.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Development:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A new creature has been created. It is the 'Gummy Bear'. More information here.

- A new cosmetic has been added. It is the Mushroom Hat, suggested by @MycoLogical. See here.

- Certain objects, such as the Ancient Altar and Hostile Mobs/Mob dens can no longer be packaged using a White Staff. Objects marked as 'irreplaceable', like the Teleportato pieces and the Eyebone were exempt by default.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artwork:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- The Gummy Bear artwork is done, see the above link to see the images

A basic Tea Plant atlas is complete. It's functional, but probably isn't aligned correctly.

- Some more Gummy Bear art:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c292/Mr_Tiddles/gummybear_zpsf5c22837.png

- Concept Kettle art here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mushroom Hat: The fresher the hat is, the more likely it is to get a positive effect, and vice versa.

Cloudboats:razz:

Gummy Bears: Found in groups, standing quite still, looking happy, and then go mental when a creature/player walks into their 'territory'. Once the threat has been destroyed, they go back to happy.

Jellyfish: Some Jelly Mushrooms are actually Jellyfish, and during the Static, they grow extra stems, and float around the player, zapping them, before replanting once the Static ends.

Kettle: The Static recharges the Kettle's durability to 100% over the course (10% per segment of time?), the Kettle does not break at 0%, it just becomes unusable until recharged.

KidneyBeanBoy's Misc Suggestions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coding:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- The coding is virtually complete for Alpha, so now only art assets are required.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Writing:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- The final Willow strings were completed by Lium. This, and his Wolfgang quotes were the reasons for his invitation. (The sheer amount of work doing this deserves recognition beyond "Well done.", or "Good job.").

- Luggs has submitted a sample of Winnie quotes.

I think that's it. People posting while doing this dragged it out a bit.

- Also, what do you think of the links? Too much, or actually quite helpful?

Recap of the Day - [14/09/2013]:
(This one will be extra-long as I'm making up for a few days here).
At least I hope so. I don't normally have 105 minutes to spare. :3
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Fellowship of the Bean" Membership:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of discussion has been about becoming a member of the 'Fellowship of the Bean', and it seems to have drawn the main conclusion that the vote should be public. More details look like being decided later tonight, and therefore will be in tomorrow's Recap of the Day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Creatures:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Artwork:
- Duckraptor artwork has been finished.

2pzwagw.jpg

Animation:
- Beanlet side view is complete.

Suggestions:
- Mandarin Duck variant of the Golden Moose.
- Skytrap - Static fauna that only attacks player when near, similar to Tentacles.
- Wilton based living Boon. Killing it drops the item it carries. Can kite.
- Guard for Resurrection Crystals - Living Gnomes - As in the trinket.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Music:
- A composer has been found for the mod, thanks to TheDanaAddams.

Gameplay:
Title Screen - A Mod start up screen has been created, it's visible when the mod is enabled.
Credits - Mod Credits have been added, everyone on the Google Doc included.
Beanstalk Loading screen - Early tests have been run on a code and animation level.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Items:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
- Crystal Lamps - Crafted with Crystals, Rope and Storm Ram Horns.
- New Setpiece - has a new turf, contains:
- Cauldron - For Cooking - Increased chance of Wet Goop. Faster, only requires 3 ingredients.
- Eldritchest - Transmutes objects into a similar item. Small chance for Ash. Is reversible.
- Crystal Lamps - Craftable, connect to each other (activiating one, activates them all).
- Thunder Tree and Datura?
- Cumulostone - Uses undecided
- Charged Cumulostone - Provides warmth, creates light
- Potions - Brewed at the Cauldron
- Crystal Pike - Tentacle Spike, damage halved while Static in effect, double during normal.
- Static Blade - Opposite of Crystal Pike, halved in normal, double in Static.
- Doors - Requires key in inventory to enter. Entering without Key, shock or bounce back.
- Mycological's Mushroom Hat
- "Bad" Mushrooms - For you and Raccoons. +Hunger, +Sanity, makes you see things that aren't really there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objects:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
- Resurrection Crystal - Similar to Touchstone, but gives Crystals upon activation. Guarded by Gnomes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Biomes:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
Swampy Biome - Dangerous, contains rare treasures like Crystals. Has respawning enemies, like the Skytrap (see "Creatures")
Duck Biome? - Contains Longbill, Duckraptor and Golden Geese. During the Static, Duckraptors are more frequent, aggressive, faster and hit harder. This makes Golden Eggs harder to get if they are only layed during static.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behaviours:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
Thunder Trees drop Cumolustone when chopped.
Thundering Thunder Trees drop Charged Cumolustone when chopped down.
Owlpeople guard Resurrection Crystals
Raccoons that eat "bad" Mushrooms become aggressive, and hit harder.
A new Shopkeeper behaviour:

When you give the salesman 25 (less?) golden eggs he would say this:

"Ah. another Egg."

"How many did you steal from those Geese up there? Like, 25?"
"Wait. 25? That's bad. That's real bad."
"Listen. The cloud world up there is probably falling apart as we speak."
"Those eggs you took must have collapsed the ecosystem."
"Quick, take these. And get rid of the other Beanstalk. That's going to cause some problems."

And then he would give you Golden Beans.

When you go back to the Beanstalk, smaller Beanstalks would rise out of the ground, much like attacking the big Tentacle in the Caves. On top of the Cloud Realm, the Static would start, and mayhem would begin. Mob spawn rates up, temperature plummets etc. The way to destroy the Beanstalk is by killing the top half, which would be swinging around like a Tentacle. Then you can attack the bottom. It would drop a lot of Crystals, including some of the rarest ones, and some of the more interesting Cloud Realm loot. Maybe the drops could be done a la the Ancient Guardian, in a Transmutation Chest.

To make the attacking part more obvious to the player, the in-game character should say something like "Maybe I should weaken the top part first".

How to get back up there? the Golden Beans. After you plant them and get back up, A flower would be blooming on top of the Beanstalk, called the Pandora Bloom. This would be another item to give to the Shopkeeper. When you give it to him, he would say this:

"Ah. I see you planted the Golden Beans. I trust you took out the monster beanstalk too?"
"That Golden Beanstalk will definetly keep that Cloud Realm from collapsing again."
"You know what? I like you. Here, take these."

And then he would give you:

- The Star Callers staff,
- The Lazy Adventurers staff,
- And a Shadow Manipulator.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crafting Recipes:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
- Crystal Lamp - 2 Charged Cumolustone, 3 Storm Ram Horns, 3 Rope
- Crystal Lamp - 1 Crystal, 2 Storm Ram Horns, 3 Rope
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Staffs and Gems:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
- Size Staff - Shrinks and Grows objects, allowing you to carry around a Crock Pot, say.
- Cloud Gem - Used for the White Staff.
- Thunder Gem - Used for Black Staff.
- White Staff - Charges things to Static level. Useful for getting Ram Horns for example.
- Black Staff - Random effects on target, (grow, shrink, static etc.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lifemare's Wall of Text and Awesomeness:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Layering the cloud levels by mob difficulty and resource availability is an obvious first suggestion. Most players reaching the cloud realm will most likely have already explored the overworld fully and one or two caves aswell. U&A should strive to offer as many threats as delights. Although obvious, deciding on this would have the immediate effect of reserving more overpowering mobs/items/mechanics for later development, wich is something we haven't discussed.

- Fire-extenguishing environment for lv.1, Fire-proof environment for lv.2 and above. This is just my pet idea and i hate to push it, but it's something we should decide wether to include or not soon.

- Establishing a more or less cohesive theme for each level. This would allow us to not only give less random suggestions, but also make "what goes where" an easier and more organized decision.
My crappy examples:
lv.1= Jack & the Beanstalk + a little extra from other fairytales
lv.2= less fairytale, more mythological
lv.3= Heavenly realm populated by titans and demigods.

- Starting by defining clear biomes with distinct properties and native mobs would be a smarter approach than throwing all the ideas for mobs into one or two all-purpose biomes. Would also be a good way to organize our workflow.
Example:
- Finish default biome with 2-3 creatures, 2-3 flora, 2-3 items, 1 setpiece for alpha release.
- Start biome 2 with similar conditions
- Then biome 3
- Then move on to biome 1 of lv.2
- Repeat

- I'm not implying we should pause our organic brainstorm and stop giving off-target suggestions. The last thing i'd want is for us to close U&A in a box before we even release an alpha! This roadmap would just be useful to help us focus on priorities for an eventual release and not get sidetracked with projects that aren't that important for that goal.

- So far, things have just been lifting off the ground slowly, and organization hasn't been an issue... Since there's so few things completed and so many in store, whatever we manage to complete is just plain awesome. But i feel that for an alpha release to be a reality we ought to redirect our talents to those things that an alpha can't go without. A list of goals to achieve that is becoming urgent i think.

- I find one of the most useful things in the near future about having our own little nook will be opening a bunch of polls for collective decisions on this matter.

- Not being afraid to include some mobs that inhabit the overworld (in a creative way of course). In fact, we should activelly pursue this goal, so that this mod offers some elements of familiarity to the player - otherwise it might risk being too different and weird and not really fitting with the rest of DS. Sort of like the caves, where you can find biomes, items and mobs from the overworld and where some things are actually a play on the world above (rabbits/bunnymen).
Example:
Frogs rain from the sky in adventure mode. We should see some in the clouds aswell.
Flying fish, Marshmallow Bees are also good examples. We've been neglecting birds though...

- Compile an organized list of essential items for survival up there (after deciding which mechanics will exist of course), and provide sources for them.

Recap of the Day (so far) - [15/09/2013]:

(This should be the normal length, as this includes just today).

Please note that things in descriptions with a question mark are up for debate.

This will continue to be updated until 10PM, so please check back often.

On weekends, these will be out at around 11-12AM (GMT). On weekdays, it will be more like 5PM.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Team name:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Fellowship of the Bean [FotB] was pretty much unanimously accepted.

- It's now basically official.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FotB Membership:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Membership:

- Teo and me have reached a majority vote for inclusion. We have not yet been officially inducted (given a badge).

- KidneyBeanBoy was excluded from the team after a vote. He will continue to offer ideas, but will not be given a vote in more official matters. He was very understanding, and took it incredibly well.

- Lord_Battal handed in a resignation following a few points about his contributions from other members. It's not known if he intends to continue working on Winnie.

Voting:

- Due to the current amount of members [11] [2 Coders, 7 Artists, 2 Writers]a majority is 6. The vote currently stands at12:0 in favour of Yea.

- In future, votes will still require a 6 vote majority, as the membership level will have levelled out at 11 [2 in, 2 out].

- In the eventuality that less than 6 people vote, we have no set protocol. I would hazard a guess that non-voting members would be summoned with an '@'.

- The fact that more than 11 people voted, means that in future, all votes will be Public votes so that non-FotB members votes don't count.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Creatures:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Animation:

- Antlion - Work is beginning on the Antlion animation.

- Beanlet - Progress is being made, and they now look better (less pixel-y) in-game.

Artwork:

- Longbill - A new atlas has been created, making the Longbill fit the colour scheme of the Duckraptor.

It's still a bit disjointed, and needs a better program (like Photoshop) to be properly lined up in. Also, it seems the export has corrupted it slightly. This also needs to be fixed.

Finally, the on the top row, for the first four, the markings should be on the bottom half of it, not the top.

Spoiler

Suggestions:

Quartz Crab - Reliable source of food (Similar to Rabbits) found on the world's edge.

Cloud Sharks - As in living amongst the Clouds, not made of them.

Grue, but for Fire - Snuffs out any Fires that have been lit.

A Fox-like mob -
Spoiler

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

Ground Types - Some surface world ground types found in the Cloud Realm?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Items:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

Cloudy Vest - Sanity regen and + movement speed. Sanity drain during the Static

Crystal Battle Axe - 75 damage. Slows you down.

Cupid's Bow - Makes a mob follow you. (Cheap and short term or expensive and long-term?)

Bean Bomb - Throwable Bombs.

Chilled Pack - Backpack that keeps food cold.

Discharger - Makes charged mobs revert to normal for the duration of that cycle.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Objects:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Animation:

Thunder Trees - Planning is beginning for the blooming, and fx are being discussed.

Artwork:

Skyshroom - Concept for the Skyshrooms

Spoiler

Suggestions:

Octoballon: Means of transportation

Spoiler

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Biomes:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

Cloud-Storm Biome - Static dependant - Home of Sheep.

Aurora Biome - Dark Clouds, Colourful Fog, Home of the Rainbowcoons.

Cloud Interior Biome - Home to Longbills etc. Retextured Cave Walls, give illusion of being inside the Cloud.

Sky Forest/Field Biome - Home to Owlpeople

Ruined Castle - Home of the Bean Giant and the (rare) Beanclops.

Humid Cloud Biome - Quartz Crabs and Cloud Sharks.

Blizzard Biome - Insulation counts as half. Snow Slurpers territory. Rare treasure.

Whirlwind Biome - Tornadoes capable of teleporting the player around spawn here.

Airship Biome - Airships fly around spawning the Clockwork creatures.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Behaviours:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

- Rainbowcoons to be attracted to places were the player is the most, to give better chance of having food stolen.

- Flying Fish to actually fly above the Pond until the player is fairly close?

- Fertilizer needs to be used three times on surface world plants. This includes Berry Bushes, Grass and Twigs. They must be fertilized after every use. However, if the player uses Manure, they need only fertilize once, as it is more difficult to obtain, giving the player a reason to go for it.

- Skyflies will hop from Skyflower to Skyflower, and have the ability to create new ones, makign a line of Skyflowers, that the player could follow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crafting Recipes:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

- Everseer Staff - Reveals a chunk of unexplored map

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Events:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coding:

Suggestion:

Tornado - Acts like a Wormhole.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roadmap:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More Interaction with Surface:

- Birds and Frogs from surface to be in Cloud Realm.

- Marshmallow Bees to go downstairs after Beanstalk planted?

Fertilizer needs to be used three times on surface world plants. This includes Berry Bushes, Grass and Twigs. They must be fertilized after every use. However, if the player uses Guano as opposed to Manure, they need only fertilize once, as it is more difficult to obtain, giving the player a reason to go for it, and thus affecting the Caves and surface world.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bugs:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current:

- Periodic stutter - Every 3-4 seconds. This is a bug, and is being worked on.

- Me and TeoSS69 have been awarded our badges.

Absences:

- lifemare will be busy this week.

- Simplex will be busy from Thursday onwards.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Items:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

n64DfOF.png

Suggestions:

- Magical harp - Used to keep Deerclops asleep in the Cloud Realm. He guards rare treasure.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Behaviours:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

- When things burn, the turf will momentarily disappear, and the item will 'fall through'. The turf will then reappear.

- Attacking a Beanlet spawns a Beanclops. As an incentive, Beanlets drop rare and powerful items, like Crystals and Edible Bean Hands.

- Either this, or Beanclops is sent up to Level 2.

- Killing a Beanclops could drop Magic Beans. 1% chance. Same as Krampus Sack.

- Deerclops guards rare treasure in the Cloud Realm.

- Winnie to be unlocked in the style of Wes, but in the Cloud Realm?

- Moose spawning to be tweaked.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Plans:

Add some of the remaining ideas, and polish what we have. Keep the gameplay balanced. Our official tester reported it as "perfect", so we want to keep it that way. An Alpha Release could be on the cards in the foreseeable future.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bugs:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current - Confirmed and being worked on:

- Periodic stutter - Every 3-4 seconds. This is a bug, and is being worked on.

Possible - Unconfirmed:

- When you combine stacks of Skyflies from your bag, with ones in your inventory, they disappear

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, this is quite the shortest one I've ever done! Either that or I'm getting quicker...

Oh, and sorry everyone for hiding your posts, but the OP explains why.

Quite quiet today, wasn't it? Like, really quiet. Just seen that you don't even need to scroll. Phew! This job just gets easier!

This would be out a lot quicker if I could actually type. Not that it took more than 15 minutes anyway.

Recap of the Day - [19/09/2013]:

Please note that things in descriptions with a question mark are up for debate.
This will continue to be updated until 10PM, so please check back often.
On weekends, these will be out at around 11-12AM (GMT). On weekdays, it will be more like 5PM.
Very late today, I know.
I'm also adding a To Do list for Artwork.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Do List (Artwork):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Creatures:
- Modify the surface level Birds to produce various Birds of Paradise'.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Creatures:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naming:
- Owlpeople to be renamed as the Strix.

Location:
- Duckraptors and Longbills to be moved upto Levels 2 & 3.
- Rocs, Griffins, Hawks and the like to be found on Levels 2 & 3.

Suggestions:
- Redbirds, Crows and Snowbirds to be modified to produce
- Octoballoon as an actual mob, another method of reaching the next level.
- Aether Whales might fly you up to the next level.
- For Level Three, Egyptian & Greek Mythology would be an excellent place to steal from.
- Bean Zealots - More powerful versions of the Beanlets, found on Level Two. Have specific markings.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PDF Guide for the Mod:
- The first draft of the PDF guide for the mod can be found here.
- This will be placed inside the mod folder for people to use at your discretion.

Loading Screen:
- Willette and Sukoushi's seperate designs have been merged and implemented!

post-262695-0-71942200-1379570170.gif

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objects:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naturally-occuring Objects:
- Ball Lighting - A heat source. Smaller and larger discharges do differing amounts of damage to you. It hops around randomly, but also has cooler periods where it can act as a light source. It still moves around, but only in a small radius.
- Crystal Sconces - Spawn randomly. Lit with normal fuel objects. Don't suffer the x10 extinguishing rate of other fire sources. When they run down, there is a cooldown period of one day. Uncommon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Biomes:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level One:
- Storm and Rainbow Biomes to be the two Biomes implemented into Level One.

Name Change:
Swampy Biome  to be renamed as Acid Biome.

Lifemare and Teo's Biome ideas:
● Storm biome (black turbulent clouds, constant rain, ball lightning, frogs, jellyfish)
● Snow biome (white swirling clouds, snow, ice traps, winged yetis)
● Sunset/Rainbow biome (pink/red clouds, cold weather, Hesperides' gold nugget trees, Flareflies, Giant Butterflies)
● Acid biome (green bubbling clouds, noxious geisers, phosphorescent molds and spores, mosquito swarms)
● Aurora biome (iridescent dark clouds, bats, shadow beasts....)
● SandStorm biome (yellow clouds, dust devils, Shai-Hulud (in my dreams)...)
● Hurricane biome (grey spikey clouds, typhoons, eye boss - like a beholder...)
and i added another one later on:
● Mushroom clouds - Radioactive neon green biome, filled with mushrooms, drains health
● Vearth (for the 3rd heavenly level - elysian fields kind of place, green grass, exuberant megaflora, paradise in disguise)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behaviours:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Beanlets are to live in villages, similar to Pigs. Except they can't fight or wear hats.
- Killing a few Beanlets causes a Beanclops to spawn.
- Beanlets live in Bean Huts, and grow crops in their village.
- Beanlets worship Beanclops. They have a deity of him in the village.
- Destroying the deity would also cause the Beanclops to spawn.
- When Beanclops is summoned, a vine with a pea-pod attached would come down, open, and Beanclops would step out.
- Following Beanlets make a certain light source light. Without a Beanlet, you must fuel it with Beanlets Peas. (The heads of the Beanlets).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Levels:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Linkways:
- The Yggdrasil of Norse mythology to perhaps be used as a link between Level One and Level Two.
- Octoballoon and Aether Whale are also possibilites for a linkway.

Thelefthelix's Level Suggestions:
Level One:
As it's the first level encountered, the mobs should remain mostly passive, and attack only when provoked. Methods of provocation could vary, perhaps the beanlets could even be found here, which would trigger the beanclops spawn if they are threatened. (Note: I think indirect threats such as this would be a good option for danger on this level.) This level, being the lowest to the ground, would have the most variety in terms of color, lighting, and biomes could be somewhat random as long as they stay in line with the storybook, gentle feel. Cloud sheep could be encountered here, in addition to rainbowcoons, longbill/duckraptor, the cheshire cat, etc. We could possibly incorperate other storybook type characters as well, or children's fables, if we so choose.

Level Two:
This level is where things would begin to pick up, and the player would begin encountering things that genuinely want to kill them. Beanclops makes his home here, possibly within the ruined garden biome someone suggested. (Sorry I forgot who!) The overall theme for this level should be darker, storms more frequent, and perhaps posing an actual threat in themselves. Creatures such as a phoenix, gryphons, etc. should be more prevelant here, and also storm rams could possibly roam about freely here. (Up until now, the player will have only encountered them occasionally.) Here would be an appropriate place for the sunset type biomes, or anything that gives the level a stormy feel.

Level Three:
Finally, this is where the big guys live. Large creatures, such as the golden golem, wander freely. Other titans would make a good addition as well, perhaps we could go with a couple different elemental type giants. It should appear peaceful and, for lack of a better word, heavenly. The mythology feel should carry over to this level, in terms of what is typical for greek gods and things. Everything here should have a big feel to it, white pillars and colems, etc.
[A Note from Bilbo - Can't help but hope we use Greek and Egyptian mythology for this level].
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Winnie:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Found in a mass of Vines, with some Sheep. During the Static, the Vines fall away, and the player must attempt to rescue Winnie, whilst fighting off the Storm Rams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current:
- Periodic stutter - Every 3-4 seconds. This is a bug, and is being worked on.
- The Double Egg laying Moose is back. This is a bug, and is being worked on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm three hours, 19 minutes late, I know. Don't kill me!

Ah, finally, a long one again. Hooray!

Please check out the PDF manual I made. I'd like feedback please! Ta!

Items:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
- Easily obtainable items for use in crafting. Particularly useful to prevent players having a Twig farm at the bottom of the Beanstalk.
- Mag Net - Ball Lightning attractor, used for pulling the Ball Lightning along behind you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objects:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Octocopter's rotors must be built by the player. Either crafted or Teleportato-style.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Music:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Winged Monkeys - A reference to Wizard of Oz.

Static Cycle:
- The player will not be able to turn the cycle off in Level One, unless they find the Weather Machine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roadmap:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interaction with Vanilla:
- The player must be able to be self-sufficient in the Clouds. Especially for Level Two & Three players, who won't want to scamper down the Beanstalk every eight minutes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current:

- Periodic stutter - Every 3-4 seconds. This is a bug, and is being worked on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been incredibly busy, and simply haven't had time today. Sorry everyone!

And then I got home and put it off so I could play Mark of the Ninja. Don't shoot me! :3

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Creatures:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Artwork:
- Quick concept art for the Manta Rays has been completed. Blur is hiding disjointed lines, as it was a quick mouse doodle.

TdNarhl.png

Suggestions - Level One:
- Manta Rays - A flying mob, that can shoot electricity at the player. Drops 1 or 2 Manta Leather, 2 Monster Meat.
During the Static it becomes aggressive, and has some aesthetic changes. Retains it's shape and drops.
- Flameingoes - Gobbler size and HP, with a flying retreat. Drops Feathers, Meat and Morsels
During the Static it becomes a mini-Phoenix, larger size, flaming body, flame ranged attack, can retreat.
- Scarecrows - Enemy of the Owlpeople. Drop 2-3 Twigs upon death. http://imageshack.com/a/img33/2744/p2j.gif

Suggestions - Level Two:
- Phoenix - Similar to a Static Flamingo, except it has two lives.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objects:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggestions:
- Cloud Coral - Upon mining, gives 4-6 Coral Frags, that can be refined into Rocks.
- Refiner - Basically a two-slot Crock Pot that allows the player to make Rocks
- Cloud Algae/Skygassum - Gives 1 Grass

- Meteor Showers - Mine the Meteor to recieve Rocks, Flint and Gold Nuggets.
- Falling Stars - An alternative to Meteor Showers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behaviours:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Rocks could be refined with several items, using a special machine (see Objects).
- Cheshire Cat would teleport off-screen when sighted, leaving behind a Scarecrow
- Scarecrows will attract Birds, this is why the Cheshire Cat leaves them, (so he can hunt).
- Manta Rays roam in herds, like Beefalo. Passive mob. They have a migrating pattern.
- Occasionally, Manta Rays fily so high that you can only see their shadows on the ground.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current:
- Periodic stutter - Every 3-4 seconds. This is a bug, and is being worked on.

Recap of the Eleven or so Days I've been gone - [23/09/2013 - 07/10/2013]:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FotB Internal Matters:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Helpers:

- Mathspy and Spazmatic are helping with our writing department, whilst not technically being on the team (having a badge), I'm sure we'd all like to thank them, and hope they can continue to support the mod and help it grow! Cheers guys!

- We also have a composer in U&A: AlexDeLarge! With the addition of Custom sounds, we hope to have some cool custom music for U&A, and hopefully now we can!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Creatures:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artwork:

- The Aetheel will no longer be an Eel, and will now be a Vine.

- Some concept artwork for the Rainbowcoon has been completed:

GIg9QTL.png

Suggestions:

The Aetheel's should live in a circle formation around a 'legendary' fruit. Outer layer has 2 Aetheels Middle Layer has 3 and the Inner Layer has 5.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Easter Eggs:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Our first Easter Egg has been planned. It'd been discussed on a public thread, so you'll know what it is if you pay attention.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Items:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

Coloured Corn. Heals Sanity and Health. Unique Colours, and it's Winter resistant while growing downstairs (it's a bit slow though).

- A Guinea Pig type mob:

cYUYMFj.png

- In the Hurricane biome, the player will slide around a bit, giving the impression of strong winds.

- Falling Marble on Level Two. A way of linking Levels Two and Three.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Biomes:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Behaviours:

-  The Aurora Biome is to be our 'darker' biome of the first level. It is the only one trying slightly hard to kill you, and pretty much the only one where it isn't just bravery and mistakes that will get you killed. You access Level Two in this biome.

- The Rainbow Biome is the second hardest. This is the Candy biome, with food galore. The mobs here are more annoying than dangerous, but it does have a bit of an edge.

- The Generic Biome is the introductory biome. It's mostly perfectly safe and peaceful (ignoring the Static). It's where the player would spend the most time, and they would really only die through a stupid mistake.

- The Snow Biome is all about Christmas fairytales. It all Ice Cream and Crystals, and very cold.

Mobs:

- Aurora - Manta Rays, Longbills, Giant Octocopter, Permahallucinations

- Rainbow - Rainbowcoons

- Generic - Electric Sheep, Storm Rams, Beanlets, Bean Zealots, Aetheel, Antlion, Golden Moose/Duckraptor

Snow - Strix

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah, it feels good to be caught up. And not feeling ill. That feels good too.

Recap of the Day - [27/10/2013]:

Please note that things in descriptions with a question mark are up for debate.

Ah, time for a restructure.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Animation:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Under Progress:

- The Beanlets are still bein worked on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artwork:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Do:

- Most mobs need artwork or animation. The only real finished mobs are the Sheep and RAMs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Development & Code:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

World Gen:

- The World Gen is mostly fleshed out, meaning work can now begin on the creatures to fill up the empty biomes.

Creatures:

- Coding for the creatures is due to begin shortly.

Items:

- The Grabber is being worked on. It will catch Skyflies, and extend the players reach.

- The Weather Machine will begin soon. It will end Winter, but begin the Static cycle. It is not known if the process is reversible. It is craftable for the player.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[No new Suggestions]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Testing & Bugs:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current and Previous Bugs:

- Periodic Stutter - Status: Fixed

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Writing:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recap of the somewhat long hiatus (Yes, Xjurwi, it's still alive) - [28/10/2013 - 05/04/2014]:

Wowie! Feels weird to be doing these again. Luckily not a MASSIVE amount to cover, just a good six months...

Please read the OP for details into the current situation of the Recaps.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FotB Membership:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Membership:

- No changes to any membership statuses, although the following members have either left the forums/have not been seen in quite a while.

lifemare: Last seen on October 20th 2013. - Considered unlikely to return.

Craig_Perry: Still around, but he is online somewhat infrequently.

thelefthelix: Still around, but she is online fairly infrequently.

TeoSS69: Has quit the forums. Will unfortunately not return, but still considered a member, should they return.

ArcticFox789: Quit the forums, but returned for the release of RoG, now getting back into U&A development.

Sukoushi: Still around, but again, only online fairly infrequently.

Helpers:

Lord_Battal: Might be posting aorund here a bit, may do some testing/artwork.

'Job Openings':

Artists/Animators are still desperately required. Concept art, final pieces, just touching up someone else's work, every little helps, and believe us when we say we could use all the art-y help we can get our hands on. We only have one animator too, which is not ideal, and given that they cannot work on the mod regularly, competant animators are more than welcome to lend a hand.

Testers are also in demand, especially testers not involved in the development of the mod, this allows us to get a better view of how the end-user sees the Cloud Realm.

- There are no openings for Coders at this moment.

Writers are also in demand. Anyone is welcome to leave suggestions for any of the strings in the Cloud Realm.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Creatures:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

- A retextured Depths Worm, textured to look like a Rainbow. We do already have Rainbowcoons though, and a retexture is a bit boring. Needs more substance really. - Arctic

Artwork:

- Weaverbird atlases are underway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aesthetic Variation:

-

Stealing RoG content:

- Because Tesla Trees were scrapped for vanilla RoG, it is now possible we could steal them: http://dont-starve-game.wikia.com/wiki/Tesla_Tree

- Possible code up for grabs too.

Tea Mechanic:

- Players would craft a Kettle, which is like a 2-slot Crock Pot. It is portable, but requires a Heat Source to work. Tea Leaves and Coffee Beans can be located all around the Cloud Realm, and each Tea/Coffee has a different effect. For example, Coffee gives a speed boost, Eggspresso lowers Sanity,  but increases Health, etc.

- Mercurius gives the player a blueprint for the Kettle along with the Golden Egg.

- Tea Bushes are moveable/replantable, much like Grass Tufts/Twigs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Items:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

- Powdered Wig: A powdered wig made of cloud that reduces your weight, meaning you can travel through biomes without being affected by the weight mechanic. [bETA] - [see 'Biomes']

- Mad Hatter's Hat: A hat which (when equipped), cannot be unequipped until the player is completely insane (0 Sanity). It negates the huge Sanity gain from Skyflowers entirely, keeping the player on a near-constant downward Sanity spiral. It's main use is that certain potions/Alchemy recipes can only be brewed whilst the hat is worn, and it also gives double Sanity from Tea. Whilst worn, earlier recipes produce more Tea for the cost, and also, Crows look like writing desks whilst worn? - Not sure on these, feedback appreciated - Arctic

Potion Suggestions:

- Rotation Potion: The stats are moved counter-clockwise, so your Hunger stat is moved to Health, and your Sanity stat is moved to Hunger, etc.

- Permutation Potion: Randomly increases/decreases all your stats, but based on a percentage (meaning you cannot be killed by bad luck). This means +/-100% stats is probably not an option.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Objects:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Credits' setpiece:

- Similar to the 'dev Graveyard' in vanilla, KidneyBeanBoy suggested a 'dev Villlage', with all the Owlpeople/Pigs named after the dev team.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Biomes:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

- In certain biomes, your weight would be too much to bear (if you have too much in your inventory), and it would be possible to drop through the clouds, and be killed. You'd respawn at the Beanstalk, minus your items, which would remain in the Cloud Realm where you fell through. [bETA]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Behaviours:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gustflowers/Whirldwind Mechanic:

- Rather than custom animating a Gustflower-to-Whirlwind transition, simplex proposed that we make the Gustflowers start small and inflate to a maximum size, before deflating and releasing a Whirlwind.

- Whirlwinds could also distribute Seeds, which, if left unpicked would germinate and become another Gustflower, meaning the player would have to watch out, as sudden Gustflower population explosions could lead to land being rendered impossible to access.

Packaging:

- Most objects can be packaged, with the exception of some important ones and any neutral/hostile mob.

- Any object that can be packaged, but does not have an in-game name is called "Nameless Package".

- Other packages cannot be packaged, preventing 'Packception'.

- Backpacks and other storage units, such as Krampus Sacks, Piggybacks, Chests, Ice Boxes, etc, cannot be packged to prevent players having a an inventory full of packaged Backpacks, giving them 120 Slots rather than 15.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Advertising:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poster:

- Work has begun on a poster to advertise the mod. Original concept by debugman18, with the developmental design from Willette. The poster will be used for a few thigns that it's needed for.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wiki:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Infoboxes:

- Infobox templates have been completed for the wiki, making it easier to display 'quick' information.

Design:

- The plan for the wiki is to keep it as close to the main 'Don't Starve Game' wiki, as though the mod wiki links to the game's wiki. The infoboxes will contain broadly the same information, and the pages will have roughly the same design.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Writing:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

- VideoGameTaco kindly chipped in with some suggestions for strings, they can be read here: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/27652-writing-writers-nook/?p=425364

- Mercurius upon giving Wilson a Kettle blueprint:

"But first, a gift.

After all.

No gentlemen should be without a good cup of tea".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bugs:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Bugs:

- Aesthetic Glitches: Small white boxes appear around the Aetheels from time to time. Being worked on.

- Worldgen Animation Broken: The latest commit has caused the worldgen animation to break. Being worked on.

- Climbing the Beanstalk is causing a crash. Being worked on.

- Saving & Quitting: Saving is making weird crashes happen, concerning the Shopkeeper.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've probably missed stuff, so do let me know via PM if I have. :-)

Hopefully this helps, and they shall continue for a while to come.

Recap of the day. And the day before that. And the day before that. etc. - [06/04/2014-09/04/2014]

Wow, I need to get back into the saddle of these things. I can't come up with stupid titles to cover my laziness forever...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fellowship of the Bean Internal Matters:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- @Lium has been invited to join the Fellowship of the Bean, after an inclusion vote reached a majority of 4-0 in favour.

- He accepted the invitation, and will soon recieve his badge from JoeW, and become a full member.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Development:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A new creature has been created. It is the 'Gummy Bear'. More information here.

- A new cosmetic has been added. It is the Mushroom Hat, suggested by @MycoLogical. See here.

- Certain objects, such as the Ancient Altar and Hostile Mobs/Mob dens can no longer be packaged using a White Staff. Objects marked as 'irreplaceable', like the Teleportato pieces and the Eyebone were exempt by default.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artwork:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- The Gummy Bear artwork is done, see the above link to see the images

- A basic Tea Plant atlas is complete. It's functional, but probably isn't aligned correctly.

- Some more Gummy Bear art:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c292/Mr_Tiddles/gummybear_zpsf5c22837.png

- Concept Kettle art here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggestions:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Mushroom Hat: The fresher the hat is, the more likely it is to get a positive effect, and vice versa.

- Cloudboats?

- Gummy Bears: Found in groups, standing quite still, looking happy, and then go mental when a creature/player walks into their 'territory'. Once the threat has been destroyed, they go back to happy.

- Jellyfish: Some Jelly Mushrooms are actually Jellyfish, and during the Static, they grow extra stems, and float around the player, zapping them, before replanting once the Static ends.

- Kettle: The Static recharges the Kettle's durability to 100% over the course (10% per segment of time?), the Kettle does not break at 0%, it just becomes unusable until recharged.

- KidneyBeanBoy's Misc Suggestions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coding:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- The coding is virtually complete for Alpha, so now only art assets are required.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Writing:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- The final Willow strings were completed by Lium. This, and his Wolfgang quotes were the reasons for his invitation. (The sheer amount of work doing this deserves recognition beyond "Well done.", or "Good job.").

- Luggs has submitted a sample of Winnie quotes.

I think that's it. People posting while doing this dragged it out a bit.

- Also, what do you think of the links? Too much, or actually quite helpful?
