UPDATED - Studio Note & Rhymes with Play Streams Temporarily Canceled.   03/06/2020

UPDATE (3/19/20): Just a quick note regarding the team at Klei Entertainment. As noted previously, everybody at Klei Entertainment is working from home due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Many of us have been working especially hard to help maintain operations as we all move out of the office and into our homes and with everything being done online, extra time must be spent in organizing conversations and trying to maintain communication. As some of you may know, we have a very open office and we are almost always in contact with each other as we go about our days. Some of us work across multiple teams and that work has become a bit more challenging for everybody.   That being said, at this time the transition has not caused any major disruption in our operations, but it would be overly optimistic to expect that we won't have any delays at all. We're going to have to be especially mindful about this in the coming weeks and make sure we don't take on too much work so we can keep things running smoothly.  We will let you know as we see how these changes affect our timelines.  Thanks UPDATE (3/10/20):
The test yesterday went well. We got the whole office (mostly) to work from home without significant issue. As a result, Klei Staff that can work from home have been asked to do so until further notice.  This means that we will have to cancel the Rhymes with Play stream until we are all back in the office. This shouldn't affect anything else at least in the short term, but if things change I will update you all here.  Original Post: Hey everybody,  This Tuesday March 10th, 2020 the entire staff at Klei will be working remotely for 1 day in an effort to prepare the studio to work remotely for a little while if the need arises.  Klei is already set up pretty well to allow for working remotely, however we are going to have a one day "dry run" with the whole studio so that we can identify and avoid any issues or downtime that may arise should choose to implement a work from home policy due to COVID-19 outbreak concerns. Unfortunately this does mean that we will be canceling the “Rhymes with Play” Art stream this coming Tuesday, however unless the situation changes we expect everything at the studio to be back to normal Wednesday and we’ll continue our regular stream schedule Thursday March 12th. If the situation changes at all, we'll let you know. Thanks for your understanding.

  1. Hello, Contrary to what I thought at the beginning, Sweepy has a lot of interesting uses like the possibility of putting magma in bottles or fix the temperature of liquid in bottles (-300K DTU/sec). The problem is that it is not possible to transport these bottles on the rails. But there is a trick to move them, the bottle emptier! You may not know it, but the auto-sweeper can deliver the bottle emptier by using it directly in the Sweepy station. So, if you use one of thoses setup : Here's two possibilities : - Empty the bottle to have metal Note it's not a complete setup, it's just a demonstration that the arm can deliver the bottle from the station to the bottle emptier. - Drop the bottle under the arm : The bottle emptier is only a lure, it will never be delivered. Note : to prevent the arm from continuously trying to relive the fallen bottles, make sure that the place where they fall is out of reach of the arm.
  2. Hi all, have you ever encountered a situation where you don't have access to plastic nor steel yet but you already have temperature issues? Here let me introduce you Sweepy, master cooler. With the knowledge of the post below, I designed an early game cooling system that does not need high end materials like steel and plastic : And oh boy, it does wonders for a low cost heat destroyer. The idea is to 1/ heat water bottles with a thermo-regulator or an AT. 2/ Allow sweepy to sweep hot bottles and reset their temperature to 20°C. 3/ Allow dupes to reinject the now cold bottles in the system Here it is, it does not require any intervention once you fed it with some water, at least 2 tons preferably. Same with legends under in spoiler : For testing and demonstration purpose I hooked it to a heat sink of supercoolant but that's basically where you would have the thing you want to be cooled, be it oxygen out of a electrolyzer or a power generation room, it doesn't matter. The complex part is its automation : Dropped bottles need to be accessed only by sweepy in order to ensure their temperature reset; ence the block on the left of the docking station and the 4 tiles gap below the bottle dropper. All 5 bottle emptiers allows for dupe to empty the docking station (limited to 1t storage) in one run. Now for the cost of all of this? not much; automation is a bit expensive but that's it : - a bit over 2t of ANY raw metal (this specific build uses copper). - ~800kg of ANY refined metal, no need for steel (but making the central door out of steel improves tremendously the system ability to inject heat into bottles) - and raw minerals of course for any insulation and building blocks + drywall/tempshift plates in the hot room. That's it. 3 tons of raw + refined metals and you're good to go. The limitation of this system comes from sweepy's ability to sweep debris fast enough; a really fast and inaccurate calculation provided something like 0.5s/kg of water. Meaning that with a heat differential of 45°C (65-20) and using water, it's capable of deleting 360 000 DTU/s for a cost of ... 80J (only for the heat deletion part, not counting the AT/thermo-reg obviously). Using a gold thermo-reg and a more precise setting for the thermo sensors can multiply this heat deletion by 2. I probably forgot to detail some aspects but my head seem to be dead tonight, don't hesitate to make suggestions or ask if there is anything you don't understand. Enjoy your early game heat deletion exploits! NB : you really don't have to use full vacuum with visco-gel airlocks, it was simply easier to design it this way. Insulated tiles for the hot thermo-reg room and vacuum where sweepy is and you'll have the same results. NB2 : I'm expecting this to be fixed quite quickly, like... next update quick.
  3. Hey, after messing around with magma sweeping in this topic https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/116284-can-you-find-a-use-for-bottled-magma/ I designed a very simple and scalable system to tame any type of volcano using Sweepy. The whole idea is to put one of these basic "taming" room on every volcano you want to tame, be it a metal or a mineral one, it doesn't matter. When a volcano erupts, sweepy does its thing and put the liquid metal/magma in the docking station, a dupe then relocates the bottles to a power room that can contain as much turbines as you want/need and cool bottles (~140°C, can be adjusted to a minimum of 125°C) are retrieved at the end, pouring these bottles to emptiers allows the recovery of the solid metal/mineral. The volcano room, buildable on any volcano : Hydro sensors are here to disable the docking station to save power if everything has been swept. Docking station and sweepy needs to be made out of steel in order to not melt. Vacuum is required in the room. Here is an example of using a fail safe when you're not sure you'll sweep the liquid quickly enough : The bottle relocation system (The Drop) in action : All 5 emptiers are needed for dupes being able to pull the 1t max from the docking station in a single run instead of 200kg. Heat extractor and turbine : and its automation for getting rid of cool bottles and allowing a new batch to come in + isolating the steam chamber when it's too hot : Note : add a long duration buffer gate right before the memory gate to filter flickering sensor. Note2 : replace the memory+filter gate with a counter set to 1 and its output going to its reset to gain space. This to me is the simplest way to tame multiple volcanoes and actually use the end material at the end, each individual chamber can be constructed quickly, attach a 2 door gas destroyer to its side if you want to make a vacuum afterward. Distance between volcanoes is not a factor if you use transit tubes, which is quite crazy. Complexity comes from the heat extractor but it's scalable (meaning you can use all the volcanoes of the map), you just need to attach more steam turbines. It's not as efficient as one specifically designed volcano tamer for a specific volcano but it's easily usable everywhere and cost less ressources; in a normal game I value a lot the ease of building a system. A huge benefit of this is you can drop magma, copper, iron, gold, whatever bottle, canister in there, they won't undergo phase change (except PWater will gradually vent-off) this system is not picky, eats about anything Important note : dupes moving bottles can "accidentally" drop them anywhere on their way if they switch task; ensure vacuum all the way to the heat extractor with an accessible ground to avoid making this an issue. On another note, sweepy is not limited by liquid mass in the tile to sweep, it doesn't have to be under 150kg contrary to dupe sweeping. Hope you enjoy, if you want to suggest improvements or ask a question, don't hesitate.
  4. i m trying to make sweepy go through the door but it is too fast . so you will need a buffer gate to make a delay but there is no point on this because this will mix gasses. if anywone have ideas share
  5. Hi, playing around with Sweepy I figured one can use these to sweep magma if it's made out of steel (also, an easy way to force the robot itself' materials would be cool). As such, I designed a magma sweeping room around a volcano and have my hands on tons of bottles of it. I'm a bit sad conveyors can't move bottles of liquid but I'm sure you guys can find a good use for it. What system could use an easy relocation of magma through bottle emptiers? Or even forcing dupes to drop 1700°C bottles on a specific spot. Thanks for your insight.
  6. Hi all I try to test last update with sweepy - its funny, but for my opinion is useless. Only specific use that i find for them - store food from farm in case if we use 2 cells hight farms. In all other cases loader+ sweeper more effective. Anyone find useful sweepy use scenario?
  7. The Tube Crossings would be a new building that sucks sweepys in. Just thinking! Not sure if there’s actually a need for something that allows them to reach different floors…
