In the Divine Comedy by Dante, the lowest level of hell is described as a frozen lake, with the inhabitants forever trapped inside the ice. I, Raspberry Milkshake, believe this is incorrect, and that I have just witnessed a level 10th level of the inferno. Something truly horrifying. This is my story. Part one: the bar of eternal suffering Alright, so I has been having some issues with my PC, but what these are don't matter to the story, only their results, so lets just skip to the chase. I launched up DS, ready to continue on the Hamlet world I had made the day before and was pretty proud of, and immediately noticed something was off. The taskbar was in front of the game. Now, for those of you have never had this happen to them, it means that you cannot access your hotbar while in fullscreen mode. This meant I had to change to windowed mode, so I constantly had both the taskbar and other open tabs peeking out the sides, not to mention that the game itself was significantly smaller. But little did I know that things where about to get a LOT worse. Part two: the stalker I noticed that I needed some gold to complete the project I was working on, and that I had none. Now, there where a couple of bat caves I had yet to loot, so I set out on my journey. I was just on the outskirts of town when I noticed that something was following me. The masked pig. I had a solid 40 oincs on me, and I swear that man is impossible to kite. I lead him to a iron hulk, and try to get it to kill him. Now, fun fact, it turns out that the hulk can PHYSICALLY NOT HURT HIM. I then just get some pig guards to kill him, and the entire field is set on fire. Ouch. Part three: the army of darkness Now that I had dealt with the masked pig, I returned to my errand. But before I could reach the caves, I had to traverse the jungle. Did I mention it was the middle of monsoon season? I think you can fill in the blanks. Now, all of this would make for a pretty damn annoying session, but not worth posting on the forums in such a dramatic fashion. Yet I have not mentioned one thing.... the worst part of this entire saga, and the single worst thing I've ever had happen to me in a videogame. Part four: the orchestra from hell I really damn love the DS music, so I understandably wanted to be able to hear the game. In retrospective however, that wasn't worth it. I mentioned I had done some fiddling with the computer before, and that caused this to happen. Imagine if almost whenever you clicked on something, it changed to night, dusk, or day, any track came on, or at random, your computer burst into fits of this. Now, I don't just mean it played once. It burst out, like some unholy orchestra from the depths of the inferno itself, constantly assaulting my ears, playing over and OVER, overlapping, repeating, seemingly neverending. And that was the worst part. Sometimes it played once, sometimes twice, sometimes three times. And then sometimes it just. kept, going. The sound of the rabid beetles, the ambience, the music, hell, even the masked pigs little tune, was constantly mixing into the sound, a feat that would make even the worst karaoke singers cringe. I really don't know how to finish this. **** you Dante.
Now before the rabid beetles were introduced, my game ran fine, and i barely ever got frame lag. But in my 210 day world on hamlet when i go to reset the calendar the rabid beetles always reproduce there, and tons and tons swarm ( see photos) And around then i get 1 to 2 fps because of it. This is the most i've ever died to something that i feel wasn't due to a mistake i made. This happens sometimes with vampire bats, but i never actually dip below 10 frames when they come. I was wondering if there was any help for me. I run any other game fine including dst, shipwrecked, rog and hamlet before i get to late game. it also takes a long time to get into ruins when the beetles are swarming me, and i get attacked several times as the screen fades to black. Not to mention my sanity drain, also shown in the photos. I sent a error report in-game, but i'd like some feedback on the forums because i am still having issues.
The jungle is a mess mainly because of 2 participators 1 doesn't do its job well enough and the other is so powerful it can tear through your jungle and you in seconds these 2 creatures are rabid beetles and spider monkeys Spider monkeys One of the many strange creatures in the jungle is the spider monkey which at first glance seem terrifying, but there not threatening at all compared to everything else in the jungle they don't defend each other, and easily go extinct without the players knowledge due to everyone's favorite rabid beetles, and their lack of care for their brethren. Luckily klei seems to be adding baby spider monkeys, and hopefully herd instincts so they defend each other when 10 rabid beetles slowly kill them off. Rabid beetles So if you have made it to humid you've seen rabid beetles there not much of a problem if you never enter the jungle, but due to the fact Aporkalypse is a thing you now have to enter the jungle if you don't want the end of the world to happen. Whats wrong with them well its pretty obvious there really destructive, and wipe out everything they see there not kiteable in numbers so you have to run or bring bug b gone which if you already had a humid season the beetles will be roaming around either killing flytraps or you, and since they never despawn you will have take care of them the rabid beetle population or it will keep increasing to an unstoppable number. What should Klei while I don't think a direct nerf is needed I think they should just die out after lush starts, turn into exotic flowers to continue the glowfly cycle or flytraps should be able to one shot them as a predator maybe flytraps become inactive/hibernate during humid to hide from their prime and then hunt them down in lush when the plants are at their strongest, rabid beetles would slowly be hunted down by flytraps, and maybe focus on rabid beetles. Also why don't they die in the poison jungle I know it would make them really easy to kill, but they should at least avoid it. Don't really know how well these would play out in game, but I think it would bring a little life into the jungle instead of a insane breeding pit where creatures try to constantly repopulate before rabid beetles make them extinct. P.S. screw rabid beetles
I watched several videos of Hamlet (thanks to Volx, DemonRebuilt and CrypticFox), and I noticed that the rabid beetles did not lose interest in the player. DS mobs have always abandoned the pursuit of the player (except bosses), except the rabid beetles who do not want to let go. It's normal ?
