What if you could create a cure for flatulence? Or narcolepsy? Or even anemic dupes? There are cures for that irl (not sure about narcolepsy but others can be cured). Lets say a flatulent dupe would get a pill made out of mealwood seeds daily to prevent the "gasses". Easy recipie to prevent the early game trouble. You could still have the extra nat gas for lategame if you want. Narcoleptic should be more complex so it still is a problem early but managable. Daily taking the medicine would prevent the naps. Similar anemia. A special pill would add extra athletics but only for a dupe with that trait.
I'll preface this suggestion by acknowledging that we don't know what will qualify as a severe illness, and as such can't speak to the intended balance of the most advanced medicine currently in the game. That said, requiring tungsten - a finite and valuable material - to make it feels off. I would suggest instead using gas grass, which is currently hard to obtain, difficult to grow, and of very limited use. Again, it may be that the most advanced illnesses will need cures long before we reach space travel, or it may be the case that an infinite supply of this advanced medicine would imbalance the game. If either is the case, feel free to disregard this suggestion.  Gas grass' only use at the moment is to feed gassy moos, which is essentially an end-game vanity project with little in the way of practical application.
So I was thinking about ways to make the game harder and thought about seasons. Each one could have it's own difficulties and benefits, but first I need to talk about some other things that would go with the update. Medicine. Medicine can be made from flowers, plants, honey etc. Sickness. Obviously it causes impairments, what those are I don't know, can be cured by using medicine. Water. An extra bar (like food or health) The player needs to drink water to stay healthy. Now for the seasons. Spring! Lots of flowers, plants and animals, normal days, ideal for making medicine and stockpiling food. Lasts 14 days. Summer. Normal amounts of animals and plants, the days last longer, nights are shorter. You need to drink water more often. Hounds come more often as well, perhaps 3 times in the 14 days summer lasts. Winter. In winter it is a completely new experience, there are very little amounts of plant/animals and food is scarce (especially with the spoilage planned in the update tomorrow) Water is iced over (You need a pick to break the ice) and days are short. However Hounds do not show up in the 14 days this lasts. You need to be near fires ever so often to stop yourself from freezing. You also have a high chance of catching an ailment. (This makes spring important) Hope you like the idea, I am open to suggestions and above all...... Don't Starve!
