  1. With viscogel (or liquid stacking) we have an airlock that allows solids to move through it horizontally. Have you ever wished you could build an airlock that traps gasses from moving vertically, and allows solids to move vertically (and as a bonus, liquids too)? I have longed for a way to drop solids (and liquids) from the top of a large height, and have them pass through liquid locks along a large fall. This is easily doable with short waterfalls (set your liquid valve to 200g). The example on the left is minimal, but may require you have a vacuum room before you start it. The example on the right starts working without a vacuum. The tile diagonally down to the left of the liquid lock break the waterfall and forces the liquid to stop beading. Demolish that tile, and you'll get a waterfall (recreating it once you have a waterfall will not break the waterfall). In addition to dropping solids through this airlock, you can drop liquids through this too, provided you make sure the liquids do not form beads (easy to achieve if you have liquids fall of the right side, and have them pass through a 1 tile tall gap before falling). Any type of liquid can pass through the lock (same as the lock or different). I do not believe liquids, when in this form, exchange heat with their environment (so you could drop boiling 500C petroleum through the lock and not break a water seal, or drop magma if you so desire). You will have to do something with the two different types of liquid at the bottom of the fall (the liquids reform when they hit the ground). For example, if you drop super hot petro through your water locks, then you could capture the water as steam, and pass it through a turbine, at the bottom of your lock, and then let the petroleum flow to wherever you want it (you'll only loose the heat from 200g of water, or set your valve to 2000g and run a turbine full time with flash boiling, or have the hot petro fall through 10 vertical locks, all set at 200g, and keep a single turbine running full time, etc.). You can use this to drop regolith from space down to the oil biome for melting, or any place else where you want to allow solids or liquids to fall vertically, and still separate two rooms. Beware, as solids DO transfer heat while falling (iirc). You can build ladders straight up through this airlock, though your dupes will get the soggy feet debuff (left design) or sopping wet (right design). In addition, if you stack two of these on top of each other, you get a perfect thermal seal. Have fun playing with this.
  2. Have you ever noticed a really long vertical stream of liquid in your base? I've seen posts where people call them boogers (when it's polluted water, it kinda looks like one). However, they can be quite pretty. Have you ever wanted to reproduce it? Using the same principles as a bead pump, you can make such a waterfall anywhere you want. Just set your liquid valve to 200g if you're using water. You can use these to create airlocks across many levels of your base, or just one level, or from space all the way to the magma biome. Plant trees in the middle, block of the pumps vents, and you have a park or nature preserve that anyone passing through gets the bonus from (I used CO2 so the gas levels will never need to be adjusted). Personally, I would love to walk through a waterfall park every day on my way to work. Hope some of you aesthetically minded folks out there enjoy this one. The needed liquid is somewhere around 6-7 times the viscosity rating (how much liquid rests on a single tile). With petro, I'd set my filter to 2000g. If you don't get it high enough, then the waterfall will form, but on a save/reload you will loose your lock. @metallichydra, this one's not an "exploity machine" like the others. This one uses game mechanics, not bugs, to achieve the results. Edit: You can also make this off the right side (see here). For more specific details, see the ONIversity post on waterfalls.
  3. Here it is folks, the Mk 2 of my airlock. I promise this won't have as many revisions as my MOGOMs did. The pressure plates are set to "below 200" and the atmo sensors are set to "above 0". What happens here is when an outer door opens, the memory cell is reset, causing the checkpoints to block a dupe's way. Then, once the inside is vacuumed enough, the memory cell turns back on, and the dupes are allowed to go on their way. The middle door is essential to the whole thing if you want it to be a two-way airlock, as it stops air from flowing from one end to the other if you have dupes leaving through both exits at the same time. All in all it costs 40w power on idle, or up to 160w at full draw.
  4. Sandlock

presenting the sandlock, brought to you by hydra facility The sandlock is a simple, small, and 100% safe airlock, which works without water, and ensures fast travel. as you can see on this picture, the hydrogen is in the room with nails, while the other rooms are vacuumed nails have access to all the rooms the way to build is it actually really easy, but it might prove a problem to get access to the regolith necessary to make it. first, build the doors, and open them. next, get yourself some regolith make it be here. you can use shove voles to get it. now, open the doors congratulations, you now have a sandlock now you can fill each room with whatever gas you want, and still have your dupes running around.
  5. 1st Attempt 2nd Attempt Automation Big thanks to @nakomaru for software suggestion that made this post possible. Without it, hard to explain whether this airlock will work or not. Forgot to mention that 2nd attempt was an implementation of ideas from @Yunru and @DemainaNyx.
