  1. Let's start with the main problem, the world gen of the main island in all worlds. For the purpose of this post, I've generated 5 worlds using default settings, revealed the map using commands and screenshotted all of them, let's go over them: All of these have one common issue, there's nowhere to sail in between the mainland biomes, meaning you have to circle all the way around the mainland, next to the edges of the ocean to get to the other side. The only one where that wouldn't be something inconvenient unless you're doing something specific is in the first screenshot, since all biomes are present on one side of the ocean. How can Klei go about fixing this? There are two main solutions I've seen other people suggest on this forum and I'll list them both: 1. Separate the mainland into multiple islands (preferably decently close to eachother) 2. Add a mechanic similar to SW Fog, where it would mirror your position on the map on one axis when you go through it. Do you think this should be addressed in a future update? I mean who knows maybe Klei is already planning to address this in the future, wish we knew if they do. Do you have any other ideas of how Klei should go about addressing this? Feel free to comment. TLDR: To get to one side of the ocean from the other, you have to circle around the mainland, do you think this should be addressed in a future update? Do you have any other ideas of how to fix this?
  2. With every new update, adding new skins have been a staple throughout the years. Browsing through my skins today I was wondering if we're ever going to get new characters and items skins for past collections and/or new. Victorian for example is a no brainer, hands down my favorite one of the bunch, elegant and sure to make anyone happy. But what about the others? Gorge/Victorian - Every single character have a Victorian skin except for Wanda. Formal/Guest Of Honor - Warly, Wortox, Wormwood still missing their skins. Rose/Roseate - Wortox, Walter, Wanda still missing their skins. Shadow/Triumphant - Warly, Wortox, Walter still missing their skins. Survivor - Warly, Wormwood, Wurt, Wanda still missing their skins. Forge/Gladiator - Warly, Wortox, Wormwood, Wurt, Walter, Wanda still missing their skins. Forge/Magmatic - Warly, Wortox, Wormwood, Wurt, Walter, Wanda still missing their skins. Merrymaker - Wolfgang, Wendy, Webber, Warly, Wortox, Walter still missing their skins. Snowfallen - Woodie, Wes, Maxwell, Wigfrid, Wormwood, Wurt, Wanda still missing their skins. Year Of The Varg/Verdant - Willow, Wickerbottom, Wormwood, Wurt, Wanda still missing their skins. Hallowed - Wanda is the only character missing a skin in this collection. Costume - Every single character have a Costume skin. Swashbuckler - Wilson, Wendy, WX-78, Wickerbottom, Maxwell, Webber, Wormwood, Walter, Wanda (Safe to say, the next entry in the Swashbuckler Collection will be added shortly, so far I loved every single skin in this one) And also: Year Of The Pig King - (Edit) I might have skipped an entry to this collection, that adds 3 more characters, so 6 characters are included, Wolfgang, Wes, Wigfrid, WX-78, Webber and Winona. Perhaps in the future we could see more ring fighters? Not a big fan of this collection myself, can't say I'd be excited for new ones. Refresh/Character Specific - Wilson still waiting a refresh. Willow have the Forlorn Doll Collection. Wolfgang have the Strongman Collection. Wendy have the Hand-me-down Collection. WX-78 got the Experimental Collection. Wickerbottom will probably have her own collection once her refresh drops. Woodie have the Canadiana Collection. Wes got the Fool's Collection. Maxwell is still waiting for a refresh. Wigfrid have the Winged Victory Collection. Webber have the Farmhand Collection. Winona have the Next of Kin Collection. Warly have 2 different skin collections, Head Chef and Trawler. Wortox also possess 2 different character specific collections, Minotaur (Which could probably fit into the Gladiator Collection if a splash of red paint was thrown in there) and Uncorrupted. Wormwood have 2 character specific collections, Hollow and Oasis Bound. Wurt have the Abyssal Collection. Walter have the Detective Collection. And finally, Wanda have the Tinkersmith Collection. Notes: - Not counting Swashbuckler (Which might be completed soon) the top 3 are, Wanda missing 8 skin collections, Warly, Wortox and Wormwood on second place missing 6 skin collections, and on third place, Walter and Wurt missing 5 skin collections. Expected from Klei, not giving paid characters too much love to not look bad in the community eyes. (How could they even!) - Winona is by far the character with most skin collections, who among the dev team loves this handywoman so much huh?? Or maybe it's just Charlie favoring her sis in mysterious ways, who knows. My hopes for the future: - This end of the year I hope to see more Snowfallen skins, it certainly grew on me seeing characters wearing blue on white, apart from the default red on black. My eyes feast on all the different colors to be honest. - Some day I hope to see a Cave Collection, Ancient, Thulecite ridden, Aztec inspired. Down to the roots (Literally) of Don't Starve. - Saddened the creepiness of Moon Horror couldn't fit in the roadmap, I was certainly one (Hopefully not of a few) cheering to see more content about that, not wishing it to be scrapped and left behind (Not a bad idea for a name either, Left by THEM) but still wanting it to make a comeback. End. Did I miss something? Is there anything you'd want to see added? Do you care for skins at all? I could talk about Belongings too but this is getting way longer than I expected, maybe for another time.
  3. TL;DR at the end Some info on why it was probably nerfed: A shadow manipulator cost 3 living logs, 7 nightmare fuel, and 1 purple gem. Wickerbottom's Bookcase costs 4 living logs, 4 papyrus(16 reeds), and 1 feathered pencil. Now, why the comparison? With Wickerbottom's bookcase you can craft the everything encyclopedia which allows 3(?) individual shadow manipulator crafts when paired with a science machine. Though this is probably not the only reason for the nerf the comparison is important as they share some materials. The encyclopedia costs: 2 papyrus(8 reeds), 1 electrical doodad Some information of probability for 2 rarest items (not important to read): (Note character exclusive perks/crafts not mentioned as that character may not be available.) Which one is more beneficial to craft first? The pros and cons on which the server will create first a very important as that will define when Wicker may have access to her bookcase. Both items compete for similar resources and share a function. This may decide whether Wicker is left to her own devices if she will or won't need to find her own living logs (provided she doesn't get help, as it may happen in a pub). Why it's more beneficial to craft the Manipulator first with the starting number of living logs: With a single totally normal tree the entire server has access to every shadow tier 2 recipe forever. Every living log after the first (or second for bat bat) can be made into a darksword, bat bat, and whatever else you may want. Gnomes can be killed for living logs and since the manipulator has the lowest requirement of living logs, these can be used for a quicker return from the station. Purple gems have a 2.35% chance to be obtained from 2 graves (red gem+blue gem). This gives them a higher probability than 1.33% chance from spawning a tree guard from an evergreen (more trees do not stack the probability, instead give more chances at the 1.33%) or a .09% chance of spawning 2 poison birchnuts (considering 1 may not drop enough for a manipulator AND certainly not enough for a bookcase). One may also be guaranteed from dragonfly, the ruins and at the latest Klaus. Depending on your play style/luck/skill set this may be easier to obtain than a forth living log. You may even find the ruins looking for the grotto. Nightmare fuel has to be fought for from a very easy to kite enemy, and unlike reeds can be spawned from anywhere. Anyone can craft this, and that player may receive immediate benefits to themselves and their friends. There may not even be a wicker present or the player who finds the first TNT (Totally Normal Tree) may care about their immediate benefits first. To the detriment of Wicker's book case: WIcker may plead with the server to share the living logs with her first. The first set of living logs will either come from a TNT+Gnome, 2-4 gnomes (provided you found the grotto and not the ruins), she/someone wins the guard tree lottery, Wormwood can bare to lose 80hp and forsake his claim at an earlier bat bat, or some other character like Woodie/Maxwell can spawn a tree guard faster. If wicker DOES NOT get cooperation from the server, she has to compete for gnome kills, compete for TNT and/possibly destroy an existing shadow manipulator which may result in accidental griefing ("No I can explain! Half my kit is locked behind these items!"). Should People craft the book case, now everyone is competing against Wicker for the world's initial reeds because she promised tier 2 shadow crafts! (Done via encyclopedias). In this case it's even advantageous for the wicker to craft her bookcase AFTER the manipulator has been made to ease the strain, it's not like the encyclopedia has any early game use anymore anyways. TL;Dr IF Wicker is smart she is better off creating a shadow manipulator first so people don't destroy her bookcase for the materials for a manipulator (also Wicker doing the inverse for her bookcase) or have to create a dozens encyclopedias which will devoid her of reeds. Before, the encyclopedias did not cost as much as the shadow manipulator. Now they cost just as much if not more. This opens the door to Wicker keeping the Living logs to herself and refusing to craft encyclopedias due to also wanting to keep the reeds for herself; after all, what's the point of a bookcase if you're not going to craft many, many books? Otherwise, she will have to ration the encyclopedia (so that it may be repaired) which will gate those crafts behind a single person or time (provided the item you wanted was not crafted). This places more responsibility on the wicker as well as somewhat killing the "early" crafts nature of the book (the materials for the manipulator where probably already to be had and a prestihatator can be crafted alongside gathering the materials for a manipulator). Potential cost changes: 3 Living logs-Similar recipe as the manipulator and the forth living log is no longer comparative to that of a purple gem. Wicker can can craft people the manipulator crafts, at this point the encyclopedia is more of a responsibility than it is a perk as the requirement of the living logs still kills some of it's early game potential. There is also some flexibility in a tree guard providing the materials for both a manipulator and a bookcase (killing the encyclopedia, but it's not that great in this scenario anyways. Unless a purple gem was not found). 2 living logs: Cheaper than a manipulator, destroying a bookcase is no longer advantageous. The encyclopedia now has more early game potential when compared to the shadow manipulator. There is also a good chance a single mush gnome or poison birchnut tree will provide the necessary living logs for a single bookcase; thus giving the encyclopedia a more immediate net gain over the shadow manipulator. "Quick! Everyone give your living logs to Wicker!" There is less strain over competition. With two living logs it is always a win win scenario for everyone on the server, as well as keeping the bookcase around. OR you could also just completely drop the living log cost. Please note: it is 3:30 am for me so excuse any inaccuracies, I will edit them as they are found.
  4. A mysterious island appears out of nowhere bringing new ways to grow bananas, renewable reeds more gears and new AWESOME craftings, but with it comes some big new annoyance. At the start of my "playthrough" I instantly (Like day 1 and really far away from the island) came across a monkey raid and after that I started getting scared: Isn't those monkeys kinda too strong? What if I'm just sailling for some fishes or looking for the lunar island for some Kelp and Stone Fruit early game? From my perspective it looks like a death sentence, and that makes me feel like never going into a boat ever again. But that just the start of my concerns, if I actually manage to kill those damn pirates I automatically get cursed, so I am kinda of obligated to go to this island fight annoying monkeys again, so I can get banana plants, then finally I can uncurse me by feeding the queen or I can just accept that I'm Wilson, but with fur and one less inventory space forever. The dock crafting seems extremelly expensive too, 4 Boards 1 Cut Stone 2 Stingers and a new resource behind a blueprint is really expensive for some premium turf. I guess that is to avoid 'griefers' on public servers but isn't it too harsh to other players? (Unless I'm wrong they are also permanent, so you can't undo your placing mistakes). So, what are you guys thoughts on this update? Do you think something should be changed? Do you feel like its worth it?
  5. So I've seen more and more people over-time suggest a 'Lazy Deserter rework', especially after Wanda was released, this post is both for my idea to which I'll get to soon but also as a hub for klei to pick ideas from to make this forgotten structure used. My idea makes sure that Wanda's backtrek watches would still be a lot better in the long run, but also so people who don't like to play as her and/or play solo can have something similar. So, here's my idea: Lazy Deserters no longer need more than 1 player to function, making them useful in solo play and not wasting other's time in multiplayer. IF there are more than 2 Lazy Deserters in the world (across shards counts) then the structure would teleport the player to the nearest one of the same gem/ or default if no gem is inserted. And last, Lazy Deserters would have the ability to have a gem socketed into them for easier linking, both across locations and across shards, all gemmed and not gemmed LD's would work the same, but couldn't work with other coloured gems/ a gemmed one with a non gemmed one, they just wouldn't work unless there's a LD of the same gem kind/ungemmed. Feel free to correct every single grammatical issue.
  6. Something I find especially interesting to think about when it comes to Don't Starve and it's lore is how the organisms in the constant work and what secrets may be hidden behind them. Something I've noticed in particular is that there are a lot of critters that are fusions of different animals found in the normal world, like catcoons, moosegoose, etc. And for a while I thought that was just a silly fun gimmick, but when Webber's animated short came out I couldn't help but wonder if there was maybe some sort of dark force that was taking overworld organisms and fusing them with one another to make entirely new species. Because while before his short Webber was implied to just straight up be eaten by the spider, but when you take a closer look it seems more like they fused. Which honestly makes more sense in the grand scheme of things. So what if Webber just met the same fate that other creature's like the catcoon met? And what about the other fauna and flora that aren't necessarily fusions? I think that the constant has been sucking in all kinds of things long before Maxwell was even like, born, and all those critters adapted into the constant, often into weird monsters because of magic being like, a part of it's ecosystem. I know that was a lot of rambling and likely didn't make much sense but does anyone have any thoughts about this idea they want to share?
  7. Please use this thread to post any bugs you find in the mod, this includes but is not limited too, 1. crashes 2. things not working as intended 3. exploits 4. glitches 5. art problems Please take a screen shot of the bug or crash screen. Please be as detailed as possible and try to explain exactly what happened to better ensure the bug gets fixed as soon as possible. Thanks, Krak
  8. This thread is for general discussion about the mod's development. We can freely discuss the mod's development without any derailing or distractions.
  9. Welcome to the suggestions thread for the "Up And Away" mod! Have an idea for a mob, item etc. that you think would be a good addition to the mob? Then this is the place for you! Be sure to keep suggestions as short and detailed as possible, to prevent clogging and allow for better feedback on the idea. If a long post can't be helped then, please consider using spoiler tags. Also if it does, make sure to explain how your suggestion is affected by the Static mechanic (think Nightmare cycle from ruins). Remember to be nice about others' ideas. If you don't agree with a suggestion please reply with reasons as to why it wouldn't fit the game instead of just writing "This idea sucks!". This will prevent a lot of unneeded hassle. Also be positive towards feedback on your suggestion. If your idea would fit with some tweaks from suggestions, then it's better than it not being implemented at all. Also important : For the sake of people who want to subscribe to this thread, DON'T GO OFF-TOPIC. Keep the posts about the suggestions and feedback, not just reactions. If you like the idea but have nothing to add apart from "Really awesome!", simply use the "Like" button. Thank you! Here's a presentation of things being worked on in the mod : https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1tdbs-30BDY8eGRQKWfLx-UIFSJZjYPIUBligpdjf_pU/pub?start=true&loop=false&delayms=5000#slide=id.p And you can view the Roadmap(WIP) here : http://forums.kleientertainment.com/index.php?/topic/27718-roadmap-objectives-and-worldviews-towards-alpha/ Suggestions so far : Items: Biomes/Fauna:
  10. So I've been thinking about how certain Set Pieces fit into DST and I thought I'd make a little place for us to kick around a few ideas concerning the future of Set Pieces and how they fit into DST. Most of the Set Pieces are nice to get but don't make or break a world. Except for the Reed Trap. For most of us the Reed Trap is a necessity, most of us going through world after world searching for a Reed Trap before even considering making something of that map. And in DST time is more precious, if you want to make a proper world with your friends you need to tip-toe your way around all of your schedules to fit in a decent amount of game time, because of this most people don't want to bother world regening for hours trying to get the holy grail that is the Reed Trap. I for one feel like the more important Pieces should either be guaranteed to spawn or have an increased chance to spawn to - at least - speed up the tiresome process of trying to get certain Pieces. So I pose the question to you all, what do you think of how the current system of Set Pieces fits into DST? Should it be changed by Klei and if so how? Or should we simply suck it up and go with the RNG or perhaps even leave it to mods? Whadaya think guise? And if anyone is open to making a mod that does this, you should do that thing mkay.
