I'm making way too many posts now that I've joined today, but its rather enjoyable and hopefully suggestions people love and would like adding, ahem, anyway read below. A slight problem I currently face in Don't Starve is the Starvation of Captured Animals, particularly Birds, although this also applies to Rabbits and Moleworms somewhat. (Although they can't be kept, they still "rot" in your pockets. Although releasing them into a Pen with no Food Source won't kill them.) I appreciate the change as it makes the game more "correct" and challenging, (as if a Bird could just sit there and never die hey?), however, I have no idea how long the bird can survive without food, so when I take a long trip out exploring or gathering materials, I return with a random feather next my cage and the impression that something is missing. My request is a Hunger Meter for Bird Cages when hovered over with by the mouse. This will allow me to get an understanding of when I need to feed the bird to keep it alive, and how much time I can spend away from camp if I want it to still be there when I return. Anyhow, thanks for reading, Kruze.

Hey guys, First off I love this game! Second, I didn't know about the feeding birds (but do now) and was trying forever to see what use the cage had, which is what brought me here. I built it thinking that it would let me farm feathers. So that's my idea. I think that having a pet bird would be a great way to farm feathers. It could be done similar to honey in that you need to use paper on the cage once ever few days to clean the cage. Doing this would result in a chance to get feathers that fell out of your bird. the cage could look visually dirty to indicate it's cleaning time. The other option was what I actually tired. Hit the cage with a hammer to scare/shake a feather out of your pet. This could be considered naughty and if done more then once a day kill the bird? Cheers- Saber

twice now i've succeeded in hatching my own little smallbird friend, and both times they're met tragic end at the hands of the cruel and unusual denizens of this world. I'm wondering if anyone managed to keep one of these tykes alive till maturity and if so, how long does that take, because i've managed to go quite a few days with the first one before the hounds got to it, and the second tried to box with a swamp tentacle, and the outcome wasn't particularly surprising. yeah, they come to your aid, MUCH like the mandrake. ALSO LIKE the mandrake, they're about as effective as wet noodles in combat. Anyone know yet if they can be placed into a birdcage? or are they too big? Seems like you don't have to feed them(yet). heck! DO they even mature yet? I could have sworn I read something in that they DID, but so far, all I have to show for my efforts is sadness, and two little graves marked "peeper" and "blinky"(not real graves, possible grief fuel hallucinations). I'm a terrible parent! T-T EDIT: anyone else think that these little guys should be named in a similar vein as the pigs? Also, is is weird that I think they should drop SOME form of remains, at least so you can give them a proper burial if they bite it? EDIT2: oh what the heck? why did this thread get dumped into suggestions?, if a mod sees this can they move it to general discussion? UPDATE: thank you for the move forum mods!
