This isn't so much lore as it is a theory, a game theory of mine, but I think it still fits here. Feedback is appreciated. Whether it's a simple, "This is good." or, "I disagree with this because (list of legitimate reasons)." But please no, "dis is stupud an ur stupud" ok? No one likes that. From what I can tell of the William Carter puzzles, William accumulated debt and was being threatened by who ever he owed the debt too, perhaps loan sharks. He took a train to California to visit his brother and/or escape the lone sharks. However, before he got there, the train crashed and William went missing. Now let's look at the train wreck a bit closer, shall we? The cause of the wreck was a circus cart that had gotten stuck on the track. It crashed in the middle of the dessert, miles away from any civilization. In the chaos, potentially dangerous monkeys escaped. Because of all this, the only person to go missing (aka, William) was presumed dead. So a train crashes in the middle of the desert and the only person to go missing is the one who's being hunted by loan sharks? Seems a bit too convenient, doesn't it? Now one could look at the Strongman title in the circus poster and think, "It was Wolfgang. He did it, and Maxwell found out so he trapped him in the Don't Starve world." Perhaps, but don't you think if Maxwell found the guy who tried to kill him he would punish him a bit more harshly than the random strangers he's pulled in?Now, who can we think of that was punished harshly? Wes. And in the circus poster, who does the man who's balancing on the elephant look like? Wes. My theory is, the loan sharks caught wind of William trying to ride to California. So they contacted Wes, who ether worked for them or owned a debt, and told him to take care of it. Now Wes at this time was a bit more fit than he is now. You kind of have to be in order to balance on an elephant like that. Thus, he was able to find a way to sabotage the train and make sure William ended up in the desert somewhere. Maxwell found out somehow that Wes was behind it and punished him by trapping him in an invisible box. The box wasn't big enough for him to do anything, but it still kept him alive. Thus, Wes' mental and physical deteriorated to the point where it is now. *bows*
This thread is about theories and speculation about William's story. Keep all discussions here so that the puzzle threads are about actually solving the puzzles. Here's an excellent recap about the puzzles : http://forums.kleientertainment.com/index.php?/topic/24433-william-carters-story-so-farpuzzle-findings-and-lore-compilation/ Remember to keep it on topic. A couple off-topic posts are ok just don't make dozens of pages of unrelated crap.
Ok, I've had an epiphany about how maxwell became what he is today. Here goes!Chapter 1"Say, Will. How much longer will it be?" Maxwell impatiently asked William."I don't know. You sound like a child. 'are we there yet?' You've asked me that at least ten times this flight" William casually replied as put the cassette into his cassette player. His name was William Carter, and he was on a boat. He made too many mistakes where he lived before. He needed to go away, to start a new life. And he had taken his brother Maxwell Carter with him."Are you listening to that song again? I mean, I know we wrote it, but you can't like it that much, can you?" Maxwell inquired."Are you telling me it's not a good song?" William responded.William could tell Maxwell was still talking, but he lost himself in his song. It was still a work in progress. He was always asking Maxwell questions about how to make it better, as he was his not only his brother, but his songwriting partner, which he did along side his magic act. They weren't necessarily songs, more like tunes, as they had no words. But as he listened, the tune became sour. "Hey Max, listen to this part. I feel like it's getting... repetitive." William said as he handed Maxwell the cassette player. He heard no response."Max! Do you mind listening?" William turned over to his right, but Maxwell was nowhere to be seen. In fact, no one else seemed to be on the plane."Hello?" William asked to no one in particular. He rubbed his eyes, but no one seemed to be on the plane. William searched every corner, but everyone had vanished."Who's driving the boat? Is anyone there?" William asked nervously."Say, pal. You don't look so good." Will heard a voice."Where are you?" Will asked, desperate to find someone, desperate for a solution for this seemingly impossible question."Down here!" Will looked down. His shadow was waving it's arms. The sight of this made William's head hurt."I can get you off of this ship, but you have to promise to do as I say from now on! Its the only way!" His shadow said. Will, being desperate to save his own life, agreed."Okay then! Close your eyes!" Said his shadow. William shut his eyes, and when he opened them, he sitting in a chair. It was not very comfortable, but he decided it would do."Now, everyone thinks your dead. You need to make sure they remember this. You need a new name." The shadow demanded. Will had wanted to start a new life, and this situation looked promising. A new name certainly could begin his new life. Will thought for a bit, then decided."Maxwell"End of chapter 1If you liked it, tell me! If you didn't, tell me! Tell me what you think. I don't care if you say it's bad. I may make a chapter 2, but I'll have to think about what it should include and only if you guys enjoyed this one. Thanks for reading!
