  1. Yeah, there is a topic. But then, every time someone necros a thread, there is someone complaining about it too. Maybe if the base topic is an exception to the no necro rule, it should be stickied.
  2. Tallbirds

Right. Remember, you're after revenge here, so don't pay any attention to Webber's skull should it drop. That would only slow down the carnage.
  3. Heck, all ever use is thermal stones. I just keep and extra one in the fridge/firepit box and swap out as needed. I just don't worry about tracking down the protective clothing at all. I dunno if this is the best method, but it definitely does work.
  4. Seriousely, red hounds....

I've had the "whole base goes foomph!" issue as well. These days I just make a dedicated fire pit about a screen away, and surround that with tooth traps and nothing else. When I hear barking I head for there no matter what I might have been doing. I have a tendency to quit out when my stuff goes up in flames, so this really was a necessary step for me to get any time at all in a game.
  5. Easiest way to summon Krampus?

What does happen when you set him to lots? Does it simply take less murder to summon him, or does he just start wandering the countryside at random?
  6. What is the correct way to pronounce Klei?
  7. What do you do with monster meat?

Give it to tallbirds and watch them mutate into something even weirder than they already are. (Just kidding Bob!) Seriously, though, cptCalavera has it right. If you don't need the eggs for food you can trade them to the pig king for gold. If you don't need gold for some reason I guess you could let them turn into rot, then set fire to them for ash. Or feed them to Pigmen, turn them into werepigs, and slaughter for fun and profit.
  8. What's so funny about the concept of a 50+ playing this game? We don't all get around with walkers while bemoaning the fact that the kids today don't have fun kicking a can around like we did back in the day before balls were invented.
  9. Things Don't Starve Players Say

No. The seasonal giants just show up, as well as frog rain. It's random though, so you might not get every monster every season. And you won't get one the first season you play, unless you change the worldgen options.
  10. Best strategy for this game ?

Having a couple of thermal stones is pretty darned useful as well. I keep on by a fire, one with me, swap as needed. If you are in an area with moleworms make sure your put your stones in a chest by the fire because they will be stolen.
  11. What Was Your First Death?

Yep. "Welcome to the game. Don't starve." Nightfall. Whappity whap! Dead. It was my best experience with a new game that I can ever remember.
  12. Thanks for the answers. Always looking for ways to improve my adventures in the wilderness.
  13. Tallbirds

Barbeque or Teriyaki? Which kind of sauce is best to have with all the rabbits I'm eating since I would never hunt the majestic tallbird for food?
  14. Looking through this thread, I've seen several bases that have multiple crockpots. I wonder, is that just for looks, or is there some use to having more than one that I just haven't figured out?
  15. So, I made it to around day 30 in my latest attempt a RoG. I had a nice little base. I had explored a fair amount of the map. And I had a survived a couple of waves of hounds! I built and dropped three tooth traps near my base. Things looked great! But then the hounds came again... and the traps they did nothing. Just sat there looking all sharp and vicious and then not doing a thing to help me. I survived the attack and double checked with the wiki page, and they indeed looked like the set traps and not ones that had just been dropped. I quit out and re-entered, thinking they might be bugged. Long story short, I got killed by hounds again. And the traps, well, let's just say they were very consistent in their lack of action. So, what did I do wrong this time?
  16. Tooth Trap Trouble

Thanks for clueing me in on how they work. I had the idea that they would trip as soon as something ran over them, the way the rabbit catching traps work. Thanks also to those that suggest the mod. I play on Steam so I have no idea how to install a mod that doesn't come from the workshop, sorry. But even if I did, I doubt that I would use this particular one. My goal is to be able to play and survive in the world with the balance that the devs intended. Right now I'm clearly not doing so well at this, obviously. But I am afraid that if I come to rely on mods that significantly change how the survival mechanics work, I'll never really learn how to deal with the "real" Don't Starve world. This is just my personal preference. I mean no disrespect to those that choose to play in a different way. Your world, your choice!
  17. What Was Your First Death?

Ok, I guess. So it is possible to actually light yourself on fire then, not just burn to death from being too close to a burning world object?
  18. What Was Your First Death?

Oh, I have died this way too. I started a campfire in a heavily wooded area, which set the nearby trees on fire, then the whole forest went up. I had run Wilson towards the top of my screen to escape the flames, then hit the ocean with no where to go. Just wasn't my first death. Probably around number 8 or 9.
  19. What Was Your First Death?

Charlie. I knew almost nothing about the game when I bought it other than the title and that it was a wilderness survival game. I figured out that I had to eat berries and carrots, and thought that I had this very simple game all figured out. She set me straight on that matter as soon as night fell, of course. Nowadays, mostly hounds. Often. But since I got some advice on these forums about that matter, I hope that this turns around.
  20. I decided to give RoG another shot. I landed in a great world! I had frogs near, spiders within an easy walk, and plenty of materials available to make my base. The problem? Hounds. Again. I killed the first three waves by wearing a log suit and using a spear. The last time they came at night so I couldn't lead them to my helper treeguards I had pacified a short run away. I was trying to fight and use my healing salve, but got eaten anyways. I rez'd at a touchstone, went back to camp, and saw they were hanging around chewing on my bones. When I tried to grab my stuff, I got murdered for real. I'm in a new world now, and I did set hounds for less. But that feels kinda cheap to me. How should I really be dealing with these things? Edit: Because apparently the word I used in place of "grab" has been sullied forever by those burdened by unsavory moral compasses.
  21. Not much of a dog person

It didn't really occur to me to take them to pigs or beefalos. And I suppose I really ought to get the hang of this kiting thing as well. Combat just isn't something I'm very good at in games. But I need to learn, this constant dying from the same thing is getting old. Thanks for the suggestions, at least now I have an idea of what to try to do.
