  1. You should be able to adjust the threshold for starvation to something other than 1000 kCal. If you get low on food and have to dig your way out of it by micromanaging door permissions to force a near 0 kCal dupe to eat, it turns into a pause fest that can make each cycle take forever to get through. If on, say, the Consumables dialog there was a slider that allowed you to adjust the threshold, you could lower it to something like 300 kCals to give critically starving dupes priority for new food that is created. edit: someone discussing the lengths you have to go through to make your dupes eat when they are critically low and ignoring food next to them:
