  1. hey there sorry to bother you. I was looking at the forums. im a big dont starve fan and ive played the game for 500+ hours. I really suck at SW though and on top of that maxwell is my favourite character but i often find that his health is just too low for SW and as i saw on your posts you have been quite successful at playing with maxwell. I was just wondering if you had any things that you have found to work quite well in SW and with maxwell in particular.

As any character really, I'm not too picky about where I set up. I usually look for just a jungle and beach in one island, those have most of the resources you'll need.

Water Beefalo are preferred for manure, but you can easily tick off the prime apes, have manure thrown at you, pick it up, and regain all your sanity back if you're Maxwell.

Hmm, well there are usually a few things I do in ANY world.

Wear his starting night armor ANYTIME you fight. It soaks up 95% of all damage taken while worn. If you use a backback, try crafting a football helmet as soon as you can and keep one on at all times, while keeping armor in your inventory.

Try to use his shadows for fighting things like spiders and hounds, distractions at the very least. The issue with them is mainly their low health and simple AI for fighting. On that note, to use his shadows a lot you need a lot of nightmare fuel. If you can find a way to consistently get a lot of nightmare fuel he's more fun to play.

Early on, you can induce insanity on yourself by wearing his dark sword and night armor both at once, -10 sanity per minute. This will help you get to 80 sanity or below to farm nightmare fuel by killing beardlings/crablings, or just fighting the shadow creatures.

If possible, try to set up your base near a patch of evil flowers. Then, catch a few bees with a net, destroy their hive so they are homeless, and then place them near the evil flowers, which they will then pollinate and spread. Put some walls up to keep them near the evil flowers and not normal ones. If you're playing Shipwrecked it's easier since you just make sure there's no normal flowers on the island. Over the days the bees will rapidy spread evil flowers, which you can pick and use to refine into nightmare fuel using the Prestihatitator. If you have a few bees there you can make a reliable amount.

In Shipwrecked in particular, I try rushing the Quacken. Since his loot can drop a Thuclecite Crown and Walking Cane, it's quite valuable for Maxwell. Maxwell's low health doesn't really affect fighting at sea since your boat takes damage rather than your health, so fighting the Quacken isn't much different from any other character.

Maxwell's shadows will actually follow you across sea by spawning in their own boats and continue to follow you, so they can be used at sea for combat and doing things like mining coral.

Finally, use Life Giving Amulets. I try to craft one whenever I have a red gem (unless I intend to use it for something else). Always keep one on you, that way if you're in a situation that looks grim you can quickly put it on and save yourself from death.

Those are some things I usually though. I've play the game for a long time though so I don't die much as any character.
