Item with stale meter will crash the game if placed on shelf and taken after rotting

I was wondering why my lightbulb still did not rot by the time I came back...

If you have a house and place a rotting item on the shelf, it will crash the game when you try to pick it up after it has rotted, but its texture will not have changed on the shelf.
