No Sapling Generated

Just started a game with a friend of mine only to realize after 45 mins of walking around that no sapling were generated. Instead the twigs were just laying on the ground. Is that normal?

Generating "small size" world
Go to bugs

This can happen in DST.  Most likely in your case, world gen picked a resource variant and swapped Saplings for Twiggy Trees.
