Today I wanted to play Don't Starve Together with a friend, Bu when I started the game on steam an error occurred. There was an error updating don't starve together.

This is a Steam-specific error message that can occur on any Steam game for a number of reasons.

The most likely fix is to fully reboot your PC, so that Steam is fully logged out and closed. Should the issue persist, the most common fix provided online is to uninstall and then re-install the Steam client.

If you have a large number of other games installed via Steam, it is highly suggested that you back up before doing anything.
