If you attack something that's in the water or on your boat with a Thulecite Club, the shadow tentacles just simply don't spawn.
Idk if its intentional or not.
Also, I've been told that the Shadow Tentacles only attack their target twice but then lose their target shortly afterwords.

Attack something in the water with a Thulecite Club. See that shadow tentacles don't spawn both on your boat or in the water. See that shadow tentacles only attack twice on land?
