Gold rocks are all mined and just become a piece of gold

I'm verifying the game cache as we speak. I do not use mods.

I experienced similar issue and I was playing as Wilson. I first thought it was the spider infested rocky biome with lots of gold nuggets lying on the ground, but there were no spider nests anywhere.
