except malbatross, frostjaw and rift bosses because all of those are boring and require a lot of time to access (e.g. waiting for bearger and going through malbatross RNG), yes the point was that there weren't any updates that weren't related to bosses and added stuff that's fun to do even if you don't like megabasing imo

You can kill all bosses and exhaust rift content by day 55? Also, a large part of sandbox games is making your own fun, i.e setting goals for yourself and doing interesting things for fun instead of profit. I feel like this is an aspect of the game a lot of people miss out on; Don't Starve was never a linear boss rush simulator. Yeah, me and others like to play it like that sometimes but at its core its a sandbox game. If it's looked at as a pure boss rush experience, there will always be an issue of running out of things to do because you'll eventually reach the end.

Bug net priority

The same goes for force-auto attacking while there are neutral mobs and Walls / Fences nearby. The latter has higher priority. -
Lunar and Shadow Fire Effects

Ah, right. I haven't played in a little while, so I wasn't sure if CC and the others took fire damage. Thanks for specifying! -
Would this be so bad?
Captain_Rage replied to HowlVoid's topic in [Don't Starve Together] Beta Branch
You realistically don't need such amount of grass or chests. Hence there is no problem. The current implementation of chests is fine. The tall chests are a nice late-game reward and by then you will have more resources / entities in the world. Hopefully not an absurd amount, but the reward will definitely be a welcome addition for neatly organizing items. We all love performance improvements. However, any performance improvements will quickly be offset by indefinite senseless hoarding. That is why it should not be encouraged in the first place. That's the thing; noobs spam chests for esoteric or no reason. Good players find a way to arrange logistics and resolve logistical issues. Please don't make the game cater to bad players even more. And yes, fun comes from expanding a base while designing it to withstand hazards (giants, hound waves, wildfires). Few things would be as boring as being able to freely expand at your whim. If you put effort, as in time and thinking, you "deserve" a nice base. Did you happen to build it the meteor field or clump every structure together for when Deerclops spawns you should have it coming. Admittedly this requires learning the game, mostly the hard way, but that is what makes it fun. The silly approach is to design bases that work poorly and run into issues and complain in the forum how bad you consider the game. Every creative approach to the game is being chipped away. The biggest example is that there are perfectly fine items for countering wildfires but fires are still getting adjusted because players are so bad at the game. When did you see anyone place a chest on a Scaled Flooring the last time? Another classic is fresh players visiting the ruins together complaining they don't have enough inventory space but you never hear them cooperating or communicating to merge their stacks of items ("hey, you can give me all your Flint and Rocks to free up your slots"). It's another example of players managing logistics insanely poorly. -
Wanda's "Character" Rework
PunkShark replied to Beetrice's topic in [Don't Starve Together] Suggestions and Feedback
When Wanda had broken into the Constant's timeline by accident she put herself into a perpetual timeloop. Messing up how she was supposed to get into the constant in the process, leaving her as an enigma in the stream on the timeline. She has experienced things before she initially knows it and knows things before it initially happens. Survivors always react to things as if they've seen it for the first time, giants and the sorts. But Wanda acts like it isn't her first time seeing it. Because she already has seen it many many times before. But the problem is she forgets it, because she is constantly hopping through timelines of the Constant and experiencing alternate timelines leaving her all forgetful until it hits her right in the face of the moment. Wanda is deathly afraid of.. death. She's the only character who age because of her circumstances, leaving her desperate and hasty. Nightmare fuel is a "necessary evil" as she claims but is required for her will to survive and escape death hence why it's so necessary. - Today

I, and many other Wilsons I've seen, think that the transmutation tree is the underwhelming one since it's basically just megabaser crap. The torch tree is way better, it makes the early game a lot more convenient and allows you to continue using torches instead of a lantern if you want since they're no longer a terrible item. If the torch branches were merged then you may as well remove the skill tree entirely, there'd be so few options you pick from that you'd be able to get essentially every single thing that affects regular gameplay. There'd be absolutely zero skill tree variety, everyone would take all the beard perks, everyone would take all the torch perks, and everyone would take the alchemy perks that affect people other than megabasers. If the torch skills affected other light sources you'd have the same thing, where everyone takes the torch skills because they're clearly just miles better than the alchemy skills. But now you'd also have ridiculous light sources where everything other than a torch lasts ages and enables fullbright mode with its light reaching far past the bounds of your screen, and torches would go back to being useless.

That's okay, character reworks 3 is coming whether or not they're adding downsides. Then it'll be followed up with the skill trees reworks, then the second set of skill trees.

Prevent Oni from disabling mods

I love how you guys keep going but don't respond what I said: Chest buff would solve the issue of storage being so terrible, if you need to wait after rifts to upgrade chest at that point you'll have 10-20 normal chests and you'll need to hammer them. Chests don't bring anything to survival, gathering logs for chests is pure tedium that doesn't bring any fun to the player. It must be so fun to you, standing in one spot and holding spacebar with axe to take down a tree and now doing that 50 more times. I don't even understand how someone can defend this. There's a reason players use bearger/forest skeleton. @SzczukuYou mention tedium and compare this to making food when food is essential part of survival and you have so many options. Tedium in itself is quite bad in most situations but as DST is partially a survival game it needs to have it but that doesn't justify having more tedium that is unnecessary and on top of that doesn't impact survival. That's not fun part of the game, that is you comparing game to a real life job. The fun part is you having the choice to do whatever you want in the game without being limited to any required survival task for a long time. Why do you think there are so many ways to restore health, hunger and sanity in the late game? Survival becomes a chore and most survival/sandbox games let players overcome it after enough time invested into building and you will need to do as little as possible to survive indefinitely. Most players that can kill CC won't even bother with storage or collecting any material as much now until they can upgrade chest. Why would I make 20 chests before rifts and hammer them all after? I'll use the floor because storage is terrible in the current state. Chest upgrade was listed under performance. The chest upgrade shouldn't be locked to after CC.

Wanda's "Character" Rework
Catuna_ replied to Beetrice's topic in [Don't Starve Together] Suggestions and Feedback
(I need to clarify that we are definitely never getting a whole character quotes overhaul, there's so so so so many quotes and that's extremely unreasonable.) Wanda is a very well written character, and it's really unfortunate when people think otherwise because I feel like they miss the point. Wanda's past is supposed to be vague, just like Woodie is. She's on the run from her doom, she's hopped through so many timelines that it's messing with her memory. She talks about her forgetfulness as a result. Her impatience is explained as she's, again running away from her doom, she can't afford to waste time because she fears her potential death and what comes after. You can't really expect to act any different. She's also a lot more realistic and grounded than a lot of the cast, and I think it adds to her charm. And no, she doesn't make nearly as many puns as Wilson does. Wanda talks about her skills in clockwork technology, several times. She criticizes more modern technology (Winona's generator) and says that her technology is more reliable, and she talks about its reliability enough." Botheration" is a term that used to be a lot more popular in the 1800's, it could just emphasize that she's a lot older than the rest of the cast and that we don't know how long Wanda has lived and been on the run. "Wait a tick" is a term that just exists because it's in-theme with her character, I don't understand what's wrong with that. To add to this, Wanda tries to act as young as she can. She says she doesn't need a walking cane yet, she is very fond of silly looking hats and she has a sweet tooth and a knack for other related things because she doesn't want to feel old and that her time is almost up. It's expected for Wanda to comment about how she's seen things before, that's a part of her character. But the thing to note is how she always tries to convince herself that shadow magic is "just a tool, right?". And she fears anything that brings her closer to death, the nightmare amulet for example leaves her vulnerable. She's also extremely desperate for a way out, commenting on how lunar magic is bursting with potential and asking herself if making a deal with Alter would be pushing her luck. I really don't understand what's not to like, she's one of the game's most well written characters in my opinion. It's so easy to compare any character to Wilson but it's so pointless. It feels like disregarding what's actually there to like about her character completely. She's an effective concept with effective execution in my opinion. Also I don't understand your Walter comment? Are you implying that he's badly written? And if he is, then what glow up did he get? Swine and Dine Walter is literally just how Walter already is. Walter's personality is great, and his quotes are a gold mine. -
I prefer what they did than the chore of collecting acid to dispose 1% tools. Atleast this one doesnt need datamine to be known....

personally I don't think it's OP because it's so unnecessary, unless you make brightshade 'walls', and even then it's a stretch. I probably clear 1 in 7-8 rifts in my world, whenever I happen to stumble upon it or it's close by, and still have way more brightshades than I will ever need, despite constantly using repair kits, and they keep piling up.

She is limited and isn't saving much time for the early game healing because of her aging downside. Any player can kill a few butterflies and get more healing when they need to heal but she is limited to 1 ageless clock in the early game or 2 if you find marble and red gem until you need to deconstruct the second one to make alarming clock. You can't really say that it is a net benefit from "free" healing when it is the only healing she has, it may be a net benefit if you don't fight much until you realize that 1 ageless clock is not enough for majority of players. I need 2 to be able to manage her old age efficiently, counter her downside of aging and heal enough to kill most bosses and I have thousands of hours of playtime. I am not saying that I am one of the best players that can do everything with minimal resource investment but I try and I am well above average player in skill and knowledge. First autumn is the best time to kill bosses as you don't need to care about seasonal temperature/rain. Most characters can kill bosses much easier than Wanda at the start of a world. 2 ageless watches aren't as good as healing food, especially when you don't have 90%+ armor, so I am encouraged to rush ruins for thulecite, kill AG in case of lazy explorer and for the really good loot and to kill nightmare werepig because dreadstone helm is so good on Wanda and almost whole first autumn is used on that. That is the optimal path for Wanda in the early game and you don't really have much of a choice compared to other characters, that's why a lot of players find her boring as she is so formulaic but I guess a lot of Wanda mains don't mind because we play her for late game and we invest early game to get to her strengths. I think this is one of the big reasons she isn't more popular besides being a locked character. I am the opposite, I rush ruins and nightmare werepig. I go out before winter starts with alarming clock, dreadstone helm and ruins loot. The faster you snowball on her the better you are off, it is much easier for me to be "lazy" as any other character. Everyone would be disappointed with a skill tree of a character that simply locks all his abilities without almost any new additions. Why are other characters more deserving of a skill tree compared to Maxwell? Strength has nothing to do with it, it would be much better if he kept all his current abilities and got a skill tree that doesn't give him much more power but is interesting.

I was catching moongleans to kill the Celestial Champion, when I noticed that the character tends to catch bees/butterflies before the moongleam Test video 2024-03-19 05-21-44.mp4 My gameplay was a bit complicated because the moonstorm fell right into the killer bee biome, I think it would be better if the priority for catch moongleam was increased

Let's talk treasure...
marshyds replied to ZeRoboButler's topic in [Don't Starve Together] General Discussion
Treasure chests are one of the most dissapointing things in dst. While they ARE easy to get (though harder to find, you can just sail to the spot and activate a pinchin winchin), theres almost no point to it. Add more stuff like lunar items or gems, maybe. Exclusive treasure stuff too, instead of things you can get by other means. -
Landing on the magma world

IMHO, just use locally-sourced niobium for the tamer build - no need to wait for steel, and you get more overheat temperature headroom, allowing for faster heat deletion. -

Would this be so bad?
Faintly Macabre replied to HowlVoid's topic in [Don't Starve Together] Beta Branch
Not especially. Clearly got under your skin, though. Isn't it annoying when people are needlessly condescending to you? Neverminding that not one of these ideas is a reasonable equivalent to making chests store some more stuff (because chopping trees involves practically no risk, practice, knowledge, or brain power), I would argue that almost all of those tasks are more interesting than chopping your bajillionth tree. Maybe people would like to spend more time doing those things than felling trees or trying to figure out which of their 50 boxes has the thing they're looking for in it. If in fact I hadn't, I'd have to ask: why should I try to understand your point when you and your like-minded friends are so dismissive of mine? I've been playing this game for a decade. The sense of achievement completing what is literally the simplest task in the game has long faded. I've heard the work music and the ambiance so much I barely notice them anymore. And even if it were necessary to leave your base far enough behind while logging to not be able to get back in time for a hound wave, that challenge is long dead too, for a number of reasons. Again, not having to spend quite as much time logging could give me time to go do something that actually puts me at risk. If those things are truly as exciting to you now as they were ten years ago, that's awesome. You'll forgive me if I have my doubts, but if it truly is, great. But it's not that hard to imagine that others would maybe like to have more time to engage with newer and more challenging things. Even if we shift to the perspective of a new player, I don't believe for a minute that cutting down on the hours and hours and hours and hours of time chopping trees would just rob them of any noticeable amount of fun. Logging is a simple task with minimal dangers. It makes zero sense to talk about this task as if it's the core of the game from which all joy is derived. Maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree here. We're obviously nowhere near on the same wavelength when you don't recognize tedium as a thing that many -- perhaps most -- people like to reduce, or that sitting and holding space for so long under so little cognitive load might not be everybody's idea of a good time. All of this to set aside, by the way, other reasons to expand storage, like not having to waste so much time trying to find your stuff because even in spite of mini signs, storage in this game is an organizational nightmare. -
I can only imagine that you were really proud of this line. Gathering and cooking food is also something that takes time. And you even have to do it more often than chopping wood for chests. Do you also want Klei to take this tedium away and make it so that we skip the middleman and spiders drop meatballs? In fact, let's remove all the tedium from the game. Double the gold you get from pig king, triple the thulecite from statues. Guarantee a tam and tusk from Walruses, have the archives be already powered, make CC drop a crown, 5 shards and the chest upgrade blueprint. Glad to know you didn't really try to understand my point. Like I said, gathering materials and crafting is part of the survival-sandbox experience. This IS part of the fun of the game. If not chopping down trees by hand then using Bearger or Weather pain to amass logs and feeling proud of yourself. The need to gather materials is an incentive to keep playing; just like any raidboss of rift. By doubling stack sizes you effectively cut the amount of logs you need for your storage in half. That's half the time less you'd spend listening to the ambiance and work music. Half the time less you'd be ambushed by hounds away from your toothtraps and forced to engage with the game in a more intense way. Half the time less you'd sit there holding space and coming up with a new build project idea for your megabase. Like, I just can't help it but think that the OP's suggstion is just the forum going "You've given us the taste of comfort with these infinite chests, now we want more and will complain about the smallest of inconveniences in the game"
