Artwork variation so far in QoL part 1

Recommended Posts

Btw, the paintings that are imitated are:

American Gothic by Grant Wood, 1930 (see note below)
unknown still life painting... suggestions?
One of the Composition series of paintings by Piet Mondrian
The Son of Man by René Magritte, 1964
not sure about the 5th one at all. Impressionistic or modern? suggestions?
unknown trompe d'oeil painting... suggestions?

The marble statue is obviously The Little Mermaid by Edvard Eriksen, 1913 (although interestingly that particular statue is bronze, not marble, and quite small in real life).

The small sculptures are probably supposed to be Amy Meier variations but I would hardly consider those masterpieces to be honest.

Note that the one feature of American Gothic that is interesting is missing here... the Gothic bit

The 5th one would be Convergence by Jackson Pollock, 1952.

I don't think the colour language and style fits Jackson Pollock very well. Especially not Convergence which is has a far darker palette and a black underlying story line. It's far closer the CoBrA style of William Gear or Asger Jorn but definitely abstract expressionism.

I thought it was a clear allusion to the drip painting technique that made Pollock famous. The different color palette could be due to the "ONI style", as if the composition was made by splattering the ingame basic paint colors on a canvas with the artist paint gun tool.

The Askhan posing-in-front-of-the-galaxy painting looks like perfect material for a science podcast cover art :

.. to the point where I wonder if it was truly a nod to that show. Edit : Nope, I was not looking at the right scientist at all. My bad! Either way, I found it funny. :) Still eligible material for podcast cover art.

I did some digging. And although Pollock, at least in my mind, was most famous for his use of black lines to connect the figures in the picture to a whole, he did do some work with almost no blacks in his most early work. I think I have found the painting that is the basis in Shimming Substance from 1946.

@Icywolf I think you might be right. Admittedly I'm not that into abstract art that I could definitely say precisely which exact painting is the basis, just like the Mondrian one. I'd have a hard time pin pointing exactly which one of his paintings in the basis but I definitely think it's from the Composition series.

As a fun extracurricular exercise; which painting is my profile picture from?

I think it is more  Norman Bluhm or Sam Francis as inspiration.

Maybe! I found some other Norman Bluhm's artwork that might qualify as inspiration : the aptly named Circus, 1959 and Chicago, 1920.

La Jeune Martyre de Paul Delaroche ... it was used as the cover of a music album (Martyre) from a danish metal band (Saturnus)

Or considering it seems to be the lower quality painting, it might be just "Dupe" by Mi-Ma - it looks like 3 options for low and 3 for high quality for each landscape and portrait?

If you're thinking about this one

I think that's inspired by Brigitte Bardot

So... will the age rating of ONI go up thanks to the marble masterpiece?

Only if Flag Posts with own texture uploads by the players get implemented

That would be like in the game ThisWarofMine where we can play with Zoidberg, Hitschler & Obama
