The Forge Beta Is now live!

Recommended Posts

I'll probably just weave what i want from the Forge, i'm not a fan of slaughter-fests, especially as they seem to bring out the worst in the community with people screaming and insulting each other and fighting over who gets to do what, and everyone wants to DPS and no one wants to heal.

I much preferred the Gorge, that was a fun event :p

The Forge> The Gorge. Having stated that the forge can be toxic since it requires instantaneous attention and cooperation and when someone just doesn't want to cooperate, it tends to bring the whole team down and spoils the fun and game experience. Gorge wasn't bad I just love the gist of strategy and fighting hordes of enemy in the forge.

ah see and i preferred the coordination of the cooking event, it was over all a much more pleasant experience for me, and more than that, was able to be duo'd or even solo'd with enough effort, allowing me to play with a friend of mine that has social anxiety. it felt more inclusive of the playerbase over all, to me, compared to the Forge which is a much more demanding event that can and will steer away players.

Forge isn't bad, and I DO enjoy it when i have a group that's friendly and not toxic. I tend to tank as Wx and i did plenty of no-death gold speed runs last year, but finding a group like that is hard and in the meantime it's a huge head ache watching people argue over who has to heal and who gets to be blowdarts, and then all of them ragequit and i'm back at square one waiting for a lobby xD

..some of us enjoy healing though. It's almost zen between all the slaughter!

But I do agree with Gorge > Forge (even if just "slightly"  in my case and not "much" :) ).

Will we get the amount of Forge chests we have level on Beta after the Beta?

No, read the first post in this thread by JoeW (I think that is the name) it says that only the community progress will continue into the live version.

indeed and you all are the real MVPs lol. It's hard to find someone to do healing or running in the groups i've been runing into lately, and if i switched to those then there wouldn't be a main tank xD everyone wants to DPS

It was easier to communicate with 2 other people rather than 5.

that's the truth, and to me the event itself felt a lot more relaxed and less tense xD

To be honest I know I will play all the characters just for the achievements as they are personalised by character now and I am an OCD collector who will need a huge amount of spools to weave all she missed last year and all achievemnts... but once I am done with that I will go back to healing and if you want you can play with me and the few friends I "force" to play DST events with me so you know they're fine with doing any job! :D

Hm. I wonder why healing is not considered glamorous seeing as you get to wear tiaras and such.

My porblem with Forge is that there're too many russian players. Now I'm not saying that russian players are bad buuuuut… i wish they had their own servers.

It's just too annoying to play with 4 people who don't even speak English or know how to play.

I don't enjoy watching wickerbottom with stone armor and garland attack sleeping boarilla while the rest of the team attempts to rez our healer.

Yes I understand that there're some new players this year but unlike with russians I can actually speak English to them.

There's differnce between noob that tries to learn how to play and a noob that types something in russian and there's no way to comunicate with them.

last year the achievements were personalized too xD i managed to get almost all of them (never did manage to win a game as Wendy or Woody, so their victory achievements are locked)

That sounds fun, i'd be delighted. I can tank and DPS, but i admit i'm not a good runner and i have rusty healing since i usually end up tanking =P

The problem is not that they are Russian. The thing is, that most Russian speaking players you meet are schools children. And they are rude and crazy. I am Russian, but I never join those teams as well. ;)

So I'm not able to play Forge beta correctly, mostly because of the LAG...
The server says that is "good" connection but even on green its really delayed.
Everyone else in the match seems to be ok but me.

The match starts and its ok for some seconds then its just doesn't move at all, movement is really delayed and the same for the attacks.

The chat messages that I send appear time after I sent them. (40 seconds up to 2 mins).

I even tried creating a custom match, the problem persist.

Also a friend of mine has the same issue.

Help me, I don't wanna be carried all over... I know we are able to win with me helping...

I can't seem to create any custom servers as of now... Keeps saying "Failed to connect to the event server."

Me & my friend froze in the middle of the last game that we were playing (stuck in running animation, no connection icon showing on top left). Don't really know what happened to other players. Now we can't seem to open or join a server. Also reported on bug page.

Ok, my main issue with the New Forge is the character specific daily quests. Why?

  • It forces you to play 1 or 2 character in a given timeframe. Not a big deal, but annoying as I want to use my favorites whenever possible.
  • It creates conflict with other players. What if someone else has the same quest as me? Then we will see 2 Wilsons in the same team, we both will take away the "no survivors repeated" bonus from everyone else because we want to do that quest, what is worse is that maybe only 1 of us will be able to make the quest, because one of Wilson's exclusive quests is "use blossom spell 4 times in less than 60 seconds", as you might know, there is only 1 healing staff per match, and you are competing usually against Wickerbottom and Winona, or a lonely Maxwell for that staff, plus the newbie Wendy/Willow, or another Wilson with the same quest to get that staff; since Wilson is the best reviver, almost no one wants to have him as a healer (because if he dies, you are out of healer, out of reviver, and out of CC). This is the most annoying part. Another example is Willow's killing blow with the cataclysmic impact of the meteor staff, and then there is a Maxwell on your team, you will be literally taking away the only role Maxwell can do outside of petrifying (seriously, unless there are 2 petrifying tomes, Maxwell is dead-weight until he gets the meteor staff), so you can do your quest, or having to play Willow again even though you don't want to and hope this time you can get your hands on the meteor staff without feeling guilty (yay...).

My suggestion is simple, make them exclusive, but not character AND weapon exclusive, but rather character OR weapon exclusive, instead of having to deal a killing blow with catacllysmic impact with Willow, we can do it with any character; that instead of having to use blossom spell 4 times in less than 60 secs with Wilson, we can do it with any character. You are still forced to choose between a set of characters (you can only use staff-specialist for both of those), but you can be more loose to which character you choose. Quests like "stop a spinning snortoise with Wolfgang" are fine, because any character can do those with the right weapon.

All above can be solved with teamwork, in the vain of that publicized "together" part from game's name. For literally years now some people complained DST doesn't actually play as a team, with roles, chores distributed among team members and whatnot. Now we have that and... Sure, problems will always arise with anything, yet people should at least try to cooperate. Pubs are indeed madness at start of game release, in time they also get organized. Want from beginning performance? Go at it with a team of friends. Don't have friends? Make. Don't want friends? Then why playing a multiplayer in the first instance? Concessions should be made.

Another thing that bugs me: this "highly efficient" mentality: sure, there are some characters best suited for a role. Is it fun to always be Willow darts? Winona healing? I beg to differ. Indeed is bothersome to go in game as Squishwell to only see a wild Willow taking your only role (as you point, if no Petrify Tome available). But then again why you haven't specifically told Willow your plan? Don't assume they know. Teamwork is about communication. For those goals in getting achievements you personally go at once; then is for fun and grinding (mmm, those sweet skins!) - and that should be.. you know, fun! Yolo with all-1-character, do "bar fights" where anyone punches and smashes everything for lols, if team is at least so-and-so competent (and no trolls present) you'll win either way. Be more lax. Also achievements aren't a must. But, again, communication and concessions should be. Cheers!

I agree. But I let new people try out the Forge (but I don't like them in a serious play server) to let them know the know-how and flow of the event. I note in the chat to use basic stats like focus on 1 mob or give up a specific armor suited for an other class. What I missed in the new Forge is the classification of characters like Klei did with the Gorge. I got the feeling newbie think it's "Free-for-all" game, however they miss that perks+armor are crucial for winning. Klei could make it easier for everyone if they add the specification for every character in the their description. That could stop a sizeable amount of new players to play Wendy with marble suit armor, nox helmet and fire staff, ranged tank style.

I agree with you on some points. And I play for fun, but also like to play to win, so I try to do my best, and if my team loses because I did a mistake, I feel bad.

Is also true that achievements are not "all there is", but they do give you a nice exp boost to level up to get more skin chests. Right now in the beta it doesn't matter at all because the progress doesn't translate to the release, so anything you get in the beta, stays in beta (well, does not even stay, but you get the idea); once on release this quests will just cause unnecessary frustration.
