[TOOL] Tools Not Included (aka the Seed Browser)

Hey!

I'm happy to release Tools Not Included - updated for the Launch Upgrade!

The site currently features a map browser (before the Launch Upgrade wipe we were at over 50 000 maps!) and a mod to upload them from the game.

Launch Upgrade Update

27.01. 2019
'Reset all rules' now correctly resets also seed number
For seeds collected since 7th Jan:

  • Added a world and geyser visual map
  • Added world element composition - total masses in starting biome and all biomes
  • Added biome size list

12.01.2019:

  • Added an 'exactly' rule comparator for planet and geyser counts rules
  • Brought back the possibility to reset all rules at once
  • Ability to import/export rules using a generated code

  • re-uploaded mods with a hotfix that prevented connection to the server

  • The entire front-end rewritten
  • The seed browser filter has been expanded with a custom rule builder
  • Seed details page shows a star map
  • Various performance improvements

From now on, two mods will be maintained: manual and automatic. Automatic version (aka the seed miner - not suitable for playing, seed uploading only) works in background and automatically generates and uploads new worlds without interaction. For more information please refer to the Mod Info Page

  • Mod versions 1.0a(utomatic) and 1.0m(anual):
    • Mods do not require debug mode anymore
    • Collecting data about world element composition
  • Mod version 1.0m:
    • As a thanks for sharing, the mod will display a list of geysers in game when you upload a seed.
    • Constraint: uploaded worlds need to be within 60 seconds of their creation and with no cells dug out.

December 2018:

  • Updated roughly 1000 seeds so that there are no more seeds left without geyser detailed statistics or lack of Oil Reservoir info

23.11.2018:

  • mod version 0.4 - hotfix
  • mod version 0.3
  • mod collects data about planets and geyser locations. nothing is done with them yet, but will be!

21.10.2018:

  • mod version 0.3 (the new version of the mod will notify the player in game if it becomes out of date)
  • support for oil reservoirs

19.10.2018:

  • Initial demo release

Great tool idea.

Attempted to use the website and had a page crash when trying to add a gold Volcano that wasn't with blank values, leading to a blank html screen.

Also attempted to use the ingame upload tool and got a crash to desktop. Seemed to only happen after I revealed the whole map.

If you wish to debug the seed I was trying to add is 1713369077.  (Great seed someone has posted to the Oni Reddit).

@Solarama could you check your output log for the ingame crash? (C:\Users\user\AppData\LocalLow\Klei\Oxygen Not Included\output_log.txt) We're playing around with it on discord and nobody else crashed so far

Can you find a way to enter a mass amount of seeds at once? I have access to a spreadsheet of hundreds of seeds from the cosmic upgrade, which are still valid.

I can prepare a script tomorrow and add them as Cosmic (checked only top two, but I'm surprised that cosmic seeds are still valid :o) Thanks a lot for the link, will be useful!

Great work!  This is really nice.  Any possibility of adding a screenshot capture for the maps?

One thing that bugs me is if a seed sounds great and then I find that all of the geysers are out at the edges of the maps

and more or less out of reach for any early/mid game usage (or worse, exposed to open space and wasting all those resources).

We're up to 769 seeds, 600 imported from the CSV. Thanks everyone!

 

@Soulwind I was going to do that, but it'd work only for manual submissions and people would need to upload the image elsewhere then provide a link (screenshots are heavy and my free database plan is tiny). I scrapped the idea as "nobody would bother anyway", but if there's more votes for that - why not.

I remember a thread discussing that exact topic.  Generally, all the biome boundaries will be the same, but there will be minute differences in where specific natural blocks and plants are located.  Some of the Points of Interest are also scrambled, and any bricked over Geysers/Vents/Volcanoes are also likely to be completely different.

That's unfortunate but technically very possible (would mean that Mac OS can produce different results as well). Anyone running Linux could confirm this please? I don't have a Linux machine handy atm


Edit: talked to a couple of guys who play ONI on Linux and they don't experience the issue and use the shared seeds just fine.

I've updated the site and the mod to v2.0. It's necessary to download a new mod version - it includes oil reservoir support, and the old version will not work anymore. Tomorrow I will update 600 seeds that were imported from the CSV with their oil reservoir numbers and soon I will add support to add oil reservoir info to existing entries by uploading them again

Hi, and thanks for the seed browser, great work !

Just tested 5 seeds from your browser in both linux and windows, all geysers are stricly identical in both versions. Locations, outputs, everything seems in order. 5 might not be enough to confirm that though.

The browser is great, ty.

However, mod keeps crashing ONI on my Mac.  I didn't try any other mods, so don't know if it's specific to this one.

Considering some people could also be reluctant to run mods, maybe implementing save upload could be a good addition.  I used @RoboPhred's save editor to check they geysers on my map and it seems to work correctly, just need the geyser calculation math which you probably already have implemented.

I did consider loading saves, but from RoboPhred's experience and headache with updating his parser - the save format changes too often than I'd like to maintain. When the game goes out of early access - possibly yes. For now - it's just too much work

 

@thejams Could you please upload output_log? Now, I've got no idea where it is located on Mac, but according to the bug tracker manual "On Mac, you will find your log file in ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log", this would help seeing what's up

@Cairath Trying it on the same map and not much there, only these two last lines were written between pressing backspace and crashing.

Then I tried a mostly empty map and it worked.  So I tried generating a new map with the seed and it still crashed, this time it was a bit more verbose.  I continued crashing it a few more times and it logs different stuff.
