Play Wx gears are super plentiful, and if you get struck by lightning you win.

I beat it with Wilbur. You'll definitely need a Mining Hat or Lantern, preferably before the last level, since they're simply good to have. I can't quite recall how I beat the long Winter levels, but I don't think I had a Beefalo Hat; probably had a Puffy Vest instead. Honestly I never laid down a Crockpot my entire journey, I never spent long enough in one level to where the Carrots and Berries lying around weren't enough for me to survive.

As a sidenote, you definitely don't need a Tam for the last (endless night) level. I camped out in the level preceding it (which was "The Game is Afoot") until Winter ended and eventually got a Tam, but it wasn't all that useful because there were more than enough Flowers.

I was just reading through the wormwood quotes and I saw the think for nightmare fuel. "Dark floaty man." There are no shadows that look like humans....

What does wormwood know?!?!

to be fair, he also says "still beating" when inspecting the dragoon heart, but everyone else says it's dead.

 

Also the fuel has a face, so he could be refering to that

Shadow watcher looks like a person.
The icon has a face, which may be what he's talking about.
