Well...Hamlet's not completely finished for the solo version yet, but I'd imagine it'd be a heck of a lot easier to port over to DST than Shipwrecked.

Okay. I have an addendum to write about the Hamlet faces, specifically for the sw characters. To help some context on em.

I love the shipwrecked characters, and when I saw Wilson have his DST faces in his sprite I was beyond excited. ...I was kinda disappointed.

Somewhat not very positive unwarranted rant warning:

To explain Warly and Woodlegs' face doing that in the yawn animation, to put it simply, the yawn animation isn't actually used in singleplayer, from what I've seen it's just in the files (as an unused part of an animation bank that is actually used). It's used in the sneezing animation in Hamlet. It uses the same 'yawning' face but the sw characters did not have those faces. These faces were drawn with sneezing in mind, not yawning because of this. That's why they look kinda in pain and Warly's face is misaligned yawning. They're most likely 'finished' to Klei.

This obviously isn't my gripe with the new sw character faces from the beta.

It's that these faces were seemingly done on crunch time. They didn't put as much love in their assets as they would have in DST. This even stems from the issue that the singleplayer and dst teams are completely different and seemingly not connected but I digress. Even though it's easier to point at the minor details showing they were rushed, most of their mouths are simple tweens. Especially apparent in their 'happy' emote faces and similar unused ones, which of course are unused. They know that. So we get this type of stuff.

 

(and Wilbur using the same mouth like 5 times)

Not to mention a lot of the faces that are unique don't match the art style of previous dst faces as well as they could. This is because of the art crunch time, most likely of course.

This obviously doesn't matter to anyone who doesn't care about the art let alone the sw characters, which is like, pretty much all of you, but it's an issue that's been haunting me. I'm pretty passionate about the 4. It kinda gave me burnout as someone that was always making fanart and always wanted this. So when I got something I always wanted the sw characters to have and seeing it unpolished in ways was like a subtle slap of coins.

There's so much greater faces they could have, but since they're unused and not in dst why bother? Woodlegs has concept art of him being angry yet his mouth just gets bigger in those faces. It's fair that they don't bother since it'll seemingly not be used but that sure won't stop it from bothering me personally.

Of course, we could've just not had the sw characters entirely. So good on Klei. But since we did... well... I'm gonna poke at it with a stick.

Don't get me wrong, they're not all bad and get what's needed done which is good enough for the fans, I like Warly's crying face & Wilbur's angry flex face, but it's not exactly something I'd wanna add to my sw characters mod in full. When I saw these faces, for my mod I just thought... Well how would I personally go about it with DST in mind? So, given what was given to them in Hamlet, I did that. So no hard feelings, I've made my peace by now.

 

So, if you don't agree with my nitpicking or think 'who cares' feel free to ignore this, just wanted to rant. They're my favorite characters after all. I want them to be treated better by Klei. But it's hard to do that given I'm one of few who do care enough to speak up about the characters being shafted (and how they're DLC locked so...). I have more gripes that expand beyond the new art but I'll refrain.

(Trust me, I could rant for 2+ years and growing about the un-appreciation of the 4)

Klei's great but not always perfect. Neither am I etc etc. I've never brought this up, or even ranted on the forums before, so don't delete me. Just want Klei to do something. Cause I'm a lil tired of characters I love for numerous reasons kinda not being cared about as much as they could be.

Again, it's 'good' enough in Klei & The Fan's eyes, but it sure makes me heart sink. A heart left shipwrecked, one could say.

TL:DR Ultimately, sw together is not happening, nor are the characters themselves getting added. I'd love them to but it's way too unlikely nowadays. A lot of the faces were seemingly done on crunch time to be used along new player animations, like how the dst characters have em.

The face with red/bigger eyes is from wicker's insomniac sleeping animation (used only on wicker, the rest have it for unity since they don't get to see that animation but she has to) and yawning is used as sneezing in Hamlet. They have the faces now for unity between all characters and makes it easier on animators. (Remember the missing Wilba faces? That.)

Ok I've made more peace of mind by finally ranting about this like an essay in public, cheers.

But they did announce that they're going to be doing another ANR sort of thing again soon...so I wonder what they're planning under those plaid sleeves.

1.If it's paid then it'll separate community

2. If it's for free then there's no point in buying singleplayer and its dlcs. Buying dst would give you everything+ new Reign and events

You have to look at it from company point of view. Klei can't (or at least shouldn't) just go "FANS WANT IT. WE DELIVER IT"

I dunno they gave away 12k hamlet copies for free so I don't think they care about money plus they have funding from skins also hamlet which is a reason to play single player. again I don't think its going to happen anytime soon

Make it free, and then make payed skins for each DLC.

That's what they've done, and I've no doubt that it's insanely profitable.

Also think about what they're doing with Single Player DS, they're adding fences and beefalo riding and other QoL things...so who's to say that it's not going to be the inverse? Why buy DST when regular DS is going to be getting everything anyways?
