Extant
This guide will take you through the steps required to achieve a solo victory in The Gorge 100% of the time, even if you get the worst possible dish orders. Also, any member of the DST cast can do this so you may play as your favorite character with no worries. Beginner Guide - most amount of text Spoiler Before Beginning Please note that you will not have enough time to beat The Gorge solo while reading this. Practice and memorization are key. The Beginning At the start, you'll want to press E to rotate your camera once. This is the camera direction I use so that you'll know which direction I mean when I talk about north, south, west, and east Begin by picking the hoe tool down south and till 8 holes. Drop the tool and talk to Mumsy to purchase a cook pot. Head north and talk to Sammy (the merm) and purchase 2 blue seeds from him. Plant all 8 of them into the holes you tilled earlier. The 1st Meal Look around for Beefalo. There are 2 herds. 1 to the south/south-east and 1 to the north-west. Pick up 3-4 manure from them. Pick 1 berry and head south-east to a pond area. Pick up 1 rock. Go back to the start and grab 1 fern around the north-east. Put 1 berry, 1 rock, and 1 foliage into the cook pot and use 2 logs and 2 signs nearby to fuel the fire. While waiting for the meal to cook, grab the axe and chop some trees to get 3 logs. This can be used along with the 3rd sign for your next dish. After getting 3 logs, the meal should be done. Put the stone soup on the altar and listen to Mumsy to see what craving is next. The 2nd Meal Veggie Begin by going back to the pond area. Search for a goat named Billy. Talk to him and buy a salt rack for 8 coins. Put it over a pond. Head south-west of the starting zone into the forest and look for the pig village. There should be some potatoes and rotten crops. Pick 3 potatoes and 2 rotten crops. Drop the rot off at base and put 3 potatoes into the cook pot. Gather 3 logs while it's cooking. Put the potato soup on the altar and listen to Mumsy to see what dish The Gnaw wants next. Bread Start by buying an oven from Mumsy for 6 old coins. Set it up somewhere you find convenient. Pick more manure until you have 6. By this time, the wheat should've grown a bit. Use the manure to fully grow 6 of them. Grab them and head south-east to the pond area. Directly to the far-right of the entrance should be a mealing stone. Use it to convert the 6 wheat you have into 3 flour. Put the 3 flour into the oven. Do not go away from the loaf of bread while it's cooking. Bread is extremely fast to cook and to burn. Gather 4 logs then put the loaf of bread on the altar and listen to Mumsy to see what craving is next. The 3rd Meal If you got bread for your 2nd dish, head to the pond area and look for a goat named Billy. Buy a salt rack from him for 8 coins then set it up over a pond. Back at base, pick up the hoe and till 8 additional holes. Meat Harvest all the wheat you have remaining and head to the pond area to refine them at the mealing stone to the right. Buy 1 pigeon from Billy and convert it to meat. On the way back to the start, pick 2 ferns. Put 1 meat and 2 foliage into the cook pot. Gather 4 logs while it's cooking. Fish Harvest all the wheat you have remaining and head to the pond area to refine them at the mealing stone to the right. Buy a fishing rod from Billy and go to a pond that doesn't have the salt rack (you can't fish in a pond that has 1). There should be 3 ponds in total in the area. Catch 1 fish and pick 2 ferns on the way out. Put 1 fish and 2 foliage into the cook pot. Gather 4 logs while it's cooking. The 4th Meal If you got bread for your 2nd dish, buy 2 more blue seeds from Sammy and plant all 8 of them. Head into the pond area to check on the salt rack that you set up. It should have a salt crystal ready to harvest by now. If it's not ready, you can gather some manure from the nearby Beefalo and check on it afterwards. Once it's done, grab it and go over to the mealing stone. Refine it into 3 salt and drop it next to the mealing stone for now. If you got veggie for your 2nd dish, gather 3 berries and put them into the cook pot. Gather 4 logs while it's cooking. If you got bread for your 2nd dish, gather 2 berries and put them with 1 flour into the oven. Gather 4 logs while it's cooking. The 5th Meal The dessert you offered should get you a sapphire medallion. Talk to Sammy to exchange it for an iron key. Use the iron key to open the gate to the north-east. Once opened, pick 3 spotty shrubs and talk to Pipton. Buy 1 spiky seed from him. Use the hoe to till 3 more holes and plant all 3 of the tomatoes. The 2nd salt crystal should be ready by now. Refine 1 spot spice and 3 more salt. Pick up the other 3 salt you left earlier and you should have 6 salts. Drop everything other than the salt at the base for now. Head to the forest south-west and find the pig village. Talk to the Swamp Pig Elder and exchange the 6 salt for 2 keys. Head to the pond area and find 2 locked safes (there should be a total of 3 safes in the pond area). Open 2 of them and take 2 silver bowls, 1 silver plate, and 1 large casserole dish if there is one. If you got bread for your 2nd meal, the 8 wheat you planted should be fully grown. Refine them all into flour. Fertilize the 3 tomatoes until fully grown and put them into the cook pot. Gather 2-3 logs while it's cooking. When done, put the tomato soup in a silver bowl before offering it on the altar. To put it in a bowl, just hover the food over it and right-click if the bowl is in your inventory, or left-click if the bowl is on the ground. You should get your 1st red mark from the soup. Leave it on the ground and listen to Mumsy to see what craving is next. The 6th Meal Meat / Bread Head over to Pipton and buy 1 large grill from him for 8 coins. Set it up anywhere you like and pick up the red mark. Go to the pond area and buy 1 slaughter tools from Billy and use it on an Old Beefalo. Pick up the 2 meat it drops. Put 2 meat, 1 flour, and 1 spot spice into the large grill. Gather 3 logs while it's cooking. Put the shooter sandwich on a silver plate before giving it to the altar. This should get you your 1st favor and 2nd red mark. Fish If you don't have an oven by this point, buy 1 from Mumsy for 6 coins. If you didn't get a large casserole dish from either safes, head over to Pipton buy 1 from him for 4 coins. Go to the pond area and catch 1 fish. If you didn't get fish for your 3rd dish, buy a fishing rod from Billy. Pick up the red mark and use it to buy 3 goat's milk from Mumsy. Put 1 spice, 1 fish, and 2 milk into the large casserole dish and place it in the oven. Gather 4 logs while it's cooking. Put the creamy fish on a silver plate before giving it to the altar. This should get you your 1st favor and 2nd red mark. The 7th Meal Use the 2nd red mark to buy more milk from Mumsy. Put 1 flour and 2 milk into the cook pot. Watch it as it cooks pretty fast. Put the macaroni and cheese in a silver bowl before giving it to the altar. This should get you your 2nd favor. The 8th Meal Gather 1 berry. If you got fish for your 6th dish, put 1 berry, 1 milk, and 2 flour into the large oven. Otherwise, put 1 berry, 1 milk, and 2 flour into the large grill. Sit back and relax while it's cooking. This is your last meal! As soon as it's done, just put in on the altar. Scone/Trifle doesn't need a silver plate for a favor (if the craving is dessert). Pick up all 3 favors and talk to Mumsy. Exchange them for the ancient key. Use the key on the altar. Congratulations, you win! Here are some tips if you want to utilize it for a group run. The maximum amount of fuel required in a good group with constant cooking is around 16-20 logs The maximum amount of fertilizer needed is 24 with #2 bread, 6 with #2 veggie This 8 dish run can be completed by opening 1 safe, if the 1st safe has 2 bowls and 1 plate Important Notes Watch out for these mistakes as they can prevent a victory. Not setting up the salt rack Forgetting to make a salt run Making a purchase mistake Purchasing in the wrong order Using wrong ingredients or the wrong cooking station Extra Notes Food gives less rewards when stale or spoiled The maximum fuel value for the fire is 4 logs, 4 manure, or 2 ruined sap The bigger the fire, the faster the meal cooks/burns The Gnaw's hunger meter drains at an accelerating rate the longer it goes without a meal For a visual demonstration, check out these videos. Ah, don't worry about it. To be honest, I tailored this guide more towards experienced players who probably beat the game in a group in BETA and wanted to try learning to solo. I'll see if I can add a more in-depth guide separate from this one so that experienced players don't have to read through a wall of text and that even newcomers can go through the process step by step. TheBlob
Oh by the way- Quote Gather more logs to fuel the next dish's fire with while your current dish is cooking. Since the game starts you off with 2 logs and 3 signs, you should technically never run out of fuel (excluding when cooking bread because it overcooks very easily) as long as you gather about 3-4 logs. Be careful not to let your meals overcook though. By picking up the beefalo manure every single time I walked past the beefalo I had enough for fuel and fertilizer and never needed to chop wood- it helped me save time! Interesting. I was a bit worried that constantly using manure for fuel might make it hard to fertilize your crops depending on the dish order you get (especially during bread, tomato soup, and fettuccine). I'll have to try doing a manure-only run sometime and see how that works out. It seems possible to do a manure only run if you get veggie for #2. It does waste time waiting around for the Beefalo if you get bread though. The best, consistent fuel seems to be a combination of 2 logs and 2 manure for the most part. No worries. I have made many solo runs by now and have memorized basically everything to do so I don't waste much time, but even I find myself running just a little short on time if I get bread and fish. TheBlob
Quote I was a bit worried that constantly using manure for fuel might make it hard to fertilize your crops depending on the dish order you get (especially during bread, tomato soup, and fettuccine). Well, perhaps I should add the caveat that I didn't get bread for my second round so I never had to grow more wheat. Manure-only definitely works if you get vegetables second- as long as I picked up two manure nearly every time I went past the beefalo and occasionally grabbed a couple of twigs, I could well afford to fertilize the garlic and tomato and still have fuel. I had some left over when the round ended, too.

This can be done on anyone so you may also play as your favorite DST character without worrying about not being able to win. This guide will continue to be worked on as I find faster, easier ways while still maintaining the RNG-proof and non-character-specific part of it. If you are looking to get the 7 dish run achievement, I would highly recommend looking at co.op's guide instead. It does require you to play as Wes though. 100% 6 Dishes win strat [not luck depended] 1st Meal - Snack = Stone Soup Grab the hoe and till 8 pieces of land Buy the Cook Pot Buy 2 blue seeds (8 wheat) and plant them Collect 1 berry, 1 rock, 1 foliage and put them into the cook pot 2nd Meal - Veggie = Potato Soup Gather 3 potatoes from the pigs and put them into the cook pot 2nd Meal - Bread = Bread Fertilize 6 of the wheat once (wait to fertilize them if they are not stage 1 yet as they should be) Buy an oven Refine 3 flour and put them into the oven Stay by the oven and do not leave the bread alone. Skip otherwise Open the gate and buy 1 spiky seed (tomato) and pick 3 spotty bushes Refine 1 spice Gather manure and fertilize 2 tomatoes until fully grown Put 1 spice, 2 tomatoes into the cook pot Put the tomato soup in a silver bowl for your 1st red mark 6th Meal - Meat = Cheeseburger If bread was #2, harvest the 8 wheat and turn all of them into flour. Skip otherwise Buy 1 large casserole dish, and 1 seed pod (garlic) then plant 2 of them Fully fertilize 1 garlic, refine 1 spice, catch 1 fish, and buy 3 milk Put 1 fish, 1 spice, 1 garlic, and 1 milk into the large oven Put the creamy fish on a silver plate for your 1st favor 7th Meal - Pasta = Fettuccine Buy 1 large cook pot If #6 was not fish, buy 1 seed pod. Plant 1 garlic and fully fertilize it. Skip this step otherwise Put 1 garlic, 1 flour, and 2 milk into the large cook pot Put it on a silver plate for your 2nd favor 8th Meal - Cheese = Macaroni and Cheese Buy 3 milk with 2nd red mark and put 2 milk, 1 flour into either the normal or large cook pot Put it in a silver bowl for your 3rd favor Congratulations, you win! 8th Meal - Dessert = Cheesecake Buy 1 oven and 1 large casserole dish if you do not have them Buy 3 milk with 2nd red mark and put 2 milk, 1 berry, and 1 flour into the large casserole dish No need to silver plate cheesecake for dessert craving. Enjoy your free, easy 3rd favor Congratulations, you win! Extra notes The worst possible dish order is probably to get both bread for #2 and fish for #6. If you get this route and fail, do not feel bad. It's possible to get efficient enough to pass even this with enough practice. Gather more logs to fuel the next dish's fire with while your current dish is cooking. Since the game starts you off with 2 logs and 3 signs, you should technically never run out of fuel as long as you gather about 1-2 logs and 2 manure. Be careful not to let your meals overcook though. Only till as much as you need and leave extra seeds behind. I specified how much you'll want so you don't have to waste time picking up anymore than you will use. Ignore Mumsy and begin working immediately at the start, meal #4, and meal #7. Those cravings are always the same so you'll know what dish to make. Can't you make Creamy Fish if u get fish craving?

That's the dish I recommended in my guide if #6 is fish. I just wanted to mention the hardest route so that if people who try and fail when they get that combination know that it's not their fault. With enough practice, you can always win solo even with that route. I typically have about 1/3rd of The Gnaw's meter left if I get veggie for #2 and 1/4 of The Gnaw's meter left if I get bread instead.

I believe you cannot if Fish is your third meal, since you'd need spice for that (which requires unlocking the upper gate with a key that costs one sapphire medallion), unless I'm mistaken! Koraxx
Hello! I think something changed, because Fettuccine is showing up as "Creamy Fettuccine" and it no longer gives a red mark when silver plated. =(
Koraxx
Oh, when I did it, I got only the Favor and not the red mark (the recipe list was showing a plated Fettuccine rewarding 1 favor and 7 coins). But I tried again and it worked normally lol
