An Entertaining Tutorial: Wilson's Journals

Recommended Posts

I've really enjoyed playing Don't Starve. As I've played I often find myself narrating in my head as though I'm writing a journal. I understand that a major part of Don't Starve's appeal is the enjoyment of discovery, the lack of a safety net, and learning by doing (and dying). That's why when I set out to create a basic tutorial I wanted one that would be just enough to get someone going without spoiling too much or piercing the suspension of disbelief. To that end I've created a set of Journal Entries that would get someone through their first three days and give them a good place to start from. So I present to you: Wilson's Journal Days 1-3http://www.4ftconscience.com/2013/02/06/wilsons-journal-day-1/http://www.4ftconscience.com/2013/02/06/wilsons-journal-day-2/http://www.4ftconscience.com/2013/02/06/wilsons-journal-day-3/The next entry, a cautionary tale of the dangers of woodcutting:http://www.4ftconscience.com/2013/03/07/wilsons-journal-day-4/

Psssst.. Psst...Make a thread in the "Art and Lore" section; and simply copy+paste your stories!I'm sure it'll get more attention, I'm just here to help you!I enjoyed reading the "Journal", and I am aware that it is simply a tutorial. The writing feels genuine; it feels fresh and wondrous just like the game itself.I love it, thanks for sharing it! Thanks for the tip Snob (very hard to write that sentence without seeming defensive). I was on the fence about where it belonged since it had some actual information in it. Thanks for clarifying, I'll make a new thread in Art and Lore at some point today.

Holy ****, i was just thinking, maybe they could add this into the game as collectable item, found on the ground, as in-game tutorial?

that was a surprisingly enjoyable read my friend, I did not expect this to be honest, but you showed quite a talent. I must also admit that this is a very fine way to introduce something tutorialish without spoiling too much. Very, very nice!
