Issue title

Stone walls are invisible.

Steps to reproduce

Start the game, build stone walls. Not there.

Describe your issue

I place stone walls, and they aren't showing. They are still there, as I can't walk through that space. It's irritating enough that I stopped playing the game.

Hey @Lacynth40, welcome to the forums. I don't own a linux so I don't know the specifics of how to do it for linux but usually a verify the integrity of the game cache should fix and odd graphical issues. Screenshots would also be nice and to check for the version, open your game's local files and a text file named version should have the specific version number you have.

@Mason98 what walls are you specifically building? I'll try and replicate it on my end.

Also if you have mods on, deactivate them cause that may be the cause too.

Just tried it myself on Shipwrecked BETA Rev 239100 in these following combinations without any mods:

  • Shipwrecked compatible RoG World (Working fine: All walls visible on build. Grass, Wood and Stone Walls.)
  • Non-shipwrecked compatible RoG World (Working fine: All walls visible on build. Grass, Wood and Stone Walls.)
  • Shipwrecked compatible Vanilla World (Working fine: All walls visible on build. Grass, Wood and Stone Walls.)
  • Non-shipwrecked compatible Vanilla World (Working fine: All walls visible on build. Grass, Wood and Stone Walls.)
  • Shipwrecked World (Working fine: All walls visible on build. Grass, Wood and Stone Walls.)

Hey Zillvr,

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. The first thing I did was to Verify the Game Files. I didn't want to bother you guys on something that was an easy fix like that. Considering how many other people are having this specific problem, I don't think it's a problem on our end. Also, further information, none of the walls are showing up. No mods are installed, and no DLC. It's just the vanilla Don't Starve. I also used a different computer, running Windows 10. The Version is 245789. I replicated the problem easily. Basically, I just started a new game, got the sciency stuff together to build stone walls, and they were still invisible. This was on an entirely different computer, and operating system. So, the problem isn't with Linux. It has to be something with the latest update. Someone changed something, and it screwed up the walls. I didn't do anything weird, it was a clean install, no mods, no DLC, nothing. Install, update, and stone walls are gone. I even validated the files on the Windows computer. Nothing doing.

@Aroox welcome to the forums, you may mean well but I highly discourage everyone else from downloading fixes from unknown sources. If in fact fixes it, can you explain what's the difference between the current walls.zip file in the game and the one you provided? Being more open about fixes would be more assuring. For now, I'll hide your link.

@Lacynth40 thanks for the detailed investigation. For now, we'll have to wait on the devs' input on the matter since it seems this is only affecting the base game of Don't Starve (vanilla, no mods, no DLCs). The only temporary workaround I can think of is to activate Shipwrecked or RoG if you have it, if not.. then we'll have to wait for a bit longer. Sorry.

Thanks everyone.

Having the same problem. The walls are still placed and cannot be walked through or selected with a preview like 'hammer or examine', but if holding space, can be destroyed automatically- its just invisible. Can still hold mobs, Ive tried it with grass, logs and stone and everything is the same. My first guess was it could be weird because of going in and out of the caves repeatedly and therefore not loading, but after reinstalling and making new saves, isint the case. Using PC.

Zillvr sent me here, i'm currently having the same issue. I'm running version 'Home Sea home' I was in a normal world (no RoG or Shipwrecked, it isn't shipwrecked compatible). I joined my world, to see the walls disappeared, this bug also happened in a world i made With only 'N tools' and 'Too Many Items'. I don't remember going into the caves at all in that world, or adventure mode. I think i joined it after the recent update (not Home Sea Home) I can't remember the date of it, it wasn't in the steam news section.

Hi

I recently started playing Don't Starve again and quickly noticed that as soon as I build Hay walls they where able to block my path but where invisible.

I also found other spots in the map where my running was blocked so I assume it was because of pre placed walls blocking me.

On top of that just a few miscellaneous objects where invisible like the chest and a few others.

I can find threads similar to this on the forum but nothing exactly like this so apologies if I shouldn't ask this or if i'm asking in the wrong place.

I really love Don't Starve and this is kinda game breaking so any help would be greatly appreciated thanks :)

So I was playing the Vanilla Version, since i just started out with actually playing regular Don't Starve, and encountered the invisible walls aswell.

It's not just Stone Walls, it is every Wall i tested. Also it defenetly is only in the Vanilla game, no matter what you do. Restarting, reloading, entering the Caves, nothing like that helps. Yet in a RoG Game the walls instantly become visible. Tried it with and without mods as well. Bascially as long as you play Vanilla at the moment, you do not have walls.

Hey :)

I had the same issue. I was looking for help here and at other community pages. I even bought a RoG and SW to fix the problem. Walls were visible but not in my game i started a few weeks ago in vanilla version. I noticed that one guy at steam wrote that he fixed the problem. I was a bit suspicious about it cause you had to dowload the file from hosting site. I was scared to get a virus or other malware with file. However after getting more and more desperated and annoyed... i did it. Downloaded the file and put it in right place in game folder. But before i did it i checked the file with AVG antyvirus. Was clear. Suprisingly after doing it, problem was fixed and my walls are visible again. :D Getting back to play before i ll have to go to work. :p

Our apologies for the inconvenience. We had found the cause of the issue and the latest patch includes a fix for this bug. https://forums.kleientertainment.com/game-updates/sw/246228-r349/

Please ensure that your game has been updated to the latest version. If you have disabled automatic updates for Don't Starve on Steam, you can verify your game files to install the latest patch.
