Don't Starve "Text not found"

hello @Hop3lesss, welcome to the forums. What version are you playing on? The first-aid fix for common issues with Don't Starve has always been to try and verify the integrity of the game cache. Next is to disable any mods that may be configuring/altering/customizing the crafting tabs. Try those two methods first and see if it works, cheers.

@Hop3lesss can you go to this location Steam\SteamApps\common\dont_starve\data\scripts and see if you have an existing strings.lua file? Cause thats the file that suppose to have the recipe descriptions. 

If you have it, but still have issues try and delete the strings.lua file WHILE DS is closed AND then do another verify the integrity of the game cache so Steam redownloads the strings.lua file. If that doesn't work.

What specific mods did you have active when this happened? 

If deleting the strings.lua file doesn't work, I suggesting going for a full reinstallation of Don't Starve.

I tried everything but still the same. When i look at the log.txt files they seem to be some fails in it,i don't really understand those but this is what it says:

I put the huuuge text wall in a spoiler. When I said attach, I meant directly attaching the log.txt file (by drag dropping them into the reply box) anyways, just a heads up for future attachments. For now, we'll wait for ValonEast's log.txt file to check for similarities between your logs and figure out why one the both of you have "Text not found".

In the mean time, I recommend trying this:

  • On Steam's Games Library Page for Don't Starve, disable the DLCs Shipwrecked and RoG.
  • Do another verify the integrity of the game cache.
  • With vanilla DS (disabled RoG and Shipwrecked) open the game and start up a new save. WARNING: Do not open saves that you started with other DLCs active (may corrupt your saves or alter them permanently)
  • Check if the Text not found still exists. If it doesn't let me know, if it still occurs, reenable your DLCs and do another  verify the integrity of the game cache for good measure.

I have also tried the steps above and with RoG and Shipwrecked disabled.

This time the Text not found does not exist at all.

Yep that fixed it, however only the Don't Starve vanilla do not have that problem.

When i enable the DLCs Shipwreck and RoG the problem still remains...

Everything in the Vanilla Don't Starve can be crafted,when i enable RoG the "Text not found" problem still exist.

can you go to this location Steam\SteamApps\common\dont_starve\data\scripts again and see if you have an existing strings.lua file? If it exists, open it with notepad and press CTRL + F and search for "RECIPE_DESC". Do they contain text? It should look something like this:

I'm so sorry. I just realized, you guys do have these strings.I forgot what the Text not found was suppose to be, checking my own Don't Starve game now. The text not found is replacing the text "Use a alchemy machine to prototype." and the text not found only replaces things that requires the alchemy machine. 

Btw, you guys aren't playing on the Shipwrecked DLC beta branch called "beta - new update for shipwrecked", correct?

After a bit of digging around, it seems the devs were aware of this found here: Klei Bug Tracker Shipwrecked: text not found

But since it's popped up again.. the only thing we can do on our end is make another bug report to the tracker.

I'm terribly sorry for all the unintentional dancing around due to my misunderstanding of the situation. Since the problem also exists in Shipwrecked DLC, I'll relay that the issue has reappeared even in other DLCs.

Do you guys also have the same issue with ONLY RoG active and Shipwrecked disabled?

Upon further investigation, it seems to be an issue caused by making worlds Shipwrecked Compatible. I have now reported the issue to the Shipwrecked bug tracker: here. Hopefully it'll get fixed in the next build.

Issue only happens in RoG for mine shipwreck is fine.

The usual answer you would get is that it'll be out when it's ready so we just got to be patient, but the Text not found isn't really a game breaking bug. So if you are experiencing something else entirely, please report directly to the bug tracker found here: Bug Tracker - Don't Starve: Shipwrecked if it concerns the Shipwrecked builds and the like. Don't forget to attach copies of your log.txt file and .mdmp file if it's available.
