Go dig tombs, open tumbleweeds, and exchange the trinkets to the pig king for nice candies. Sure, you'll starve to death, but hey, you'll have sugar before. And when summer starts to become a thing, get 9 blue gems (taken from Dragonfiy ofc) put them in chester during full moon, and put your thermstone in there while you make a base in the middle of the oasis. And who wouldn't want a walking icebox? Also, making a base in the middle of the Oasis is actually THE best place to base, since there's no chance of wildfires happening during the summer. Blue gems are plentiful, doesn't matter if they're from dfly or not, it's not a big loss. Speaking of ice, a great way to go insane is just to mine ice until your inventory is full of it, let it melt, and the wetness will make you go crazy. That way you can get nightmare fuel from shadow monsters. If you're wx, eat any and all gears you come upon.
