@Mario384 @CarlZalph Yeah, but now The End Is Nigh is nearly useless on a WX if each consecutive lightning strike shortens the length of an overcharge :V

It doesn't shorten the length, it just doesn't add as much time onto it.

WX-78 will now gain slightly less Overcharge time for each subsequent lightning strike when Overcharge mode is already active.

See, he's gaining less overcharge from each lightning strike, as opposed to where it used to double it the second time and so forth.  So chain lightning events (End is Nigh) with give him more overcharge time than if he were struck just once, but it won't be as much as before.

Old Wx-78's charge from one entire End book reading:

Min/Avg/Max :: 40/60/80 days

New:

Min/Avg/Max :: 12.86/13.96/14.87 days

Still seems like a lot, but definitely not as huge.

Because having a character that has a light source built in, can run around at the speed of sound, and can buff his stats should be able to have this ability for 40-80 days.  Yup yup yup, even though you haven't formed a constructive argument of any kind on why this is bad, I definitely see your angle on this.

EDIT: It was sarcasm...  Woops.  >.>  <.< Sorry about that.

Further the most cost/effective way to charge the robot is to only read the book once and let it finish before reading again.

One book can be extended to 23.22/27.40/30.74 days.

I think he might have been admitting that he misunderstood.

Are you sure that's correct? Each initial strike gives a day worth of overcharge, no? So, if the overcharge increments after each charge half the amount than it did last time, then the max you can run in one go is less than 2 days!

I got overcharged by a Wicker's book and I needed overcharge like 3 or so days after again, perhaps even less... in terms of how it felt like.

It is indeed.  I did however only show for a full book reading, which is 16*5 strikes.

It actually didn't change!

I redid the same thing reading from the source files, but there is the assumption that a whole book was being read.

Here's a more complete table showing all of the number of reads, up to using 3 books:

@CarlZalph oooh, so that explains why one reading only gave me like 2 or 3 days. And only like 60 - 70% of the strikes hit me, so, no wonder. I guess the next time a Wickerbottom comes around, I should ask them to read 3 full books for a full seasonal strike load. Hopefully our red gem supply can afford  it... in which case I'll collect any and all red gems I find in caves.

What exactly is the increment though? 90% added from the amount that the last strike gave?

It's a recursive function in that is uses an old value as an input for future values.

function CalcDiminishingReturns(current, basedelta)
    local dampen = 3 * basedelta / (current + 3 * basedelta)
    local dcharge = dampen * basedelta * .5 * (1 + math.random() * dampen)
    return current + dcharge
end
inst.charge_time = CalcDiminishingReturns(inst.charge_time, TUNING.TOTAL_DAY_TIME)
TOTAL_DAY_TIME = seg_time*16
seg_time = 30

inst.charge_time starts at 0.

All relevant code bits, and the reason for min/avg/max is due to the random element that is shoved into the CalcDiminishingReturns function, wherein I always return 0/0.5/1.0 for calculating them.

As for having a few books being read it's far more efficient for book usage to time charged ratio to only read it one time and let it drain before continuing.

Here's a chart showing reading it once, letting it drain, and then doing it again:

 1)   4.6459655535   5.4802979726   6.1496724959
 2)   9.291931107   10.9605959452  12.2993449918
 3)  13.9378966605  16.4408939178  18.4490174877
 4)  18.583862214   21.9211918904  24.5986899836
 5)  23.2298277675  27.401489863   30.7483624795
 6)  27.875793321   32.8817878356  36.8980349754
 7)  32.5217588745  38.3620858082  43.0477074713
 8)  37.167724428   43.8423837808  49.1973799672
 9)  41.8136899815  49.3226817534  55.3470524631
10)  46.459655535   54.802979726   61.496724959
11)  51.1056210885  60.2832776986  67.6463974549
12)  55.751586642   65.7635756712  73.7960699508
13)  60.3975521955  71.2438736438  79.9457424467

15)  69.6894833025  82.204469589   92.2450874385

Much more value doing it this way, though you'll want some sort of sanity regeneration like wearing the bee queen hat doing it.

Better to be charged at once for longer than doing it multiple times over imo. Less efficient? Sure, but it saves the hassle and late game red gems should be pretty common anyway.

So, the calculations for the math function of the overcharge seems to be a bit tricky to grasp... At least the charge can still last for a while with enough strikes.

Wait wait my boy, correct me a Genderless robot called OP-78 is nerfed

but by the 12.86-14.87 those are actual days with lighting/End is nigh right so thats how long it last? or how many minutes, seconds does WX get when struck by the book or natural causes

Yeah that's in-game days after 5 reads from the End is Nigh book.

It doesn't matter if it was done via book or lightning from the skies.
