Dedicated Server Quick Setup Guide - Windows

    start dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer -console -cluster Cluster_3 -shard Caves
  8. The two servers started without a hitch for me. Note that anyone using this should change Cluster_3 to whatever the folder name is containing your world.

Thanks I made it with your guide, now i have 2 questions, is it possible to add mods after creating the server? and my ping is ??? is it possible to fix that?

Hi I made a server and it worked perfectly and now I have just a quick question..^^

How do I correctly shutdown the servers? Is just closing the two windows ok? Don't they need to stop at the same time? I tried typing "c_shutdown()" but it only closed one of them.

Stopped working dedicated server settings of the world after updating today :

Game Update- 172848

Worldgenoverride.lua format has changed a bit. It should be fully backwards compatible, but for more info read this thread.

but in that topic there is nothing foundhow do I do to get it working ?

After Following the guide i launched the servers they both fully loaded but the cave servers ip wasnt forwarded yet. so  windows firewall pop up  I gave access.

 So now i reload the servers and im getting this crash. ( attached file if needed )

i also verified the files deleted the dlcsupport_strings.lua  and verified found 1 file missing from each folder game and ded game I also went ahead and re did the MyDedServ folder,.  I can run my old Server Bats they run but i keep geting the token invalid for caves. 

Any Ideas?

i have been trying to get this working but i get this

So, on SteamCMD, I still don't know about how to install the Don't Starve app.

I really don't understand the SteamCMD thing.

There was a game update (plus a hotfix) just recently. Make sure both the server(s) and the client are updated and on the same version.

I fixed the problem using steamcmd tool, downloaded the new server files, and I copied and pasted over the old files of the old server (except mod's file because my server uses mods), and runs ok.

There is some problem with .bat file for server update maybe.

Caves can be indeed hosted through the game. Due to technical limitations they run in a separate process, thus they are somewhat similar to a dedicated server.
However, this separate process is tied to your client game process, so exiting (or crashing) the client will make the caves process to finish as well, as opposed to a dedicated server, which can continue to run even with no players logged in.

I Can't make it work :'(((((

If anyone could help me I would greatly aprecciate it...

I'm trying to run a 99 day server that I play with friends as a dedicated server because the caves are not working right...

 

I did everything in the tutorial but when I run "StartDSTServers.bat" it says that "Windows can't find the file "dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer (In spanish on the photo)" although I'm absolutely sure that everything is right in the .bat file.

so I launched the "dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer" manually and start any server in the game just to find the "There was some kind of trouble starting up the server. How odd" message...

My impression was that steamcmd does its downloads into a folder relative to the executable by default, i.e. C:\steamcmd\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server, not C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server.

Anyways, the dialog is correct, there is indeed no dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer.exe in the ...\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server folder. But there is one in bin subfolder.

Try (in StartDSTServers.bat):

cd /D "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server\bin"

well this is a mess.. i tried every combination of with and without steamcmd, all guides floating around the internet and i can NOT get mods to work in any way i try... the server runs no problem, i can configure everything no problem, but it refuses to load mods.

 

also what exactly is the point of downloading steamcmd if you can just run both servers by making the .bat run the dedicated server from steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server\bin ?

i made my .bat like this and it works just fine

cd /D "X:\steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server\bin"
start dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer -console -cluster Cluster_1 -shard Master
start dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer -console -cluster Cluster_1 -shard Caves

What do server_logs say about downloading/loading mods?

 

I would think steamcmd is useful if you don't want to/aren't able to run steam GUI client on the target machine.

they are both in the exact locations you specified. did i miss any lines that make them actually load in the server? ill see if i can grab a log later tonight because even though without mods my server went from 0 to 12/12 almost instantly lol

im not sure what i did different but it looks like i got it working now, it may have been this after all
