Caves Beta - October 8th Update

Did'ja all see me and Kelly on the stream today? Phew, that's stressful, I dunno how those professional streamers do it. I'll stick to making games for a living, thanks. Anyways we talked a lot about what's going on with caves and stuff there. :-)

New features:


  • All daylight-loving creatures should sleep appropriately while underground: They have a normal cycle, but only if they're in the light, otherwise the fall asleep.

  • First set of clothing drops added to the caves beta for testing.

Bugs killed:


  • Slaves were not pausing if they couldn't connect to the master, even if pause_when_empty was set.

  • OSX dedicated server actually available from steam on the cavesbeta branch (including anonymous login through steamcmd).

Known Issues:


  • On clients, you may receive a clothing drop, but not get the "gift" tab in-game. Next time you log in to the game you will be presented with the item, though...

  • If you happen to be peeking at the logs, you'll see lots of messages about getting items, this message is misleading and these don't actually mean you're getting items.

It looks like there's also support for a custom console commands file? That'd be nice, I keep having to bring over my changes to consolecommands.lua whenever it gets overwritten. Does it go in the data folder instead of scripts? I tried scripts too, but can't seem to get it to load my functions (I just copy-pasted what I had edited into consolecommands.lua).

consolecommands.lua goes in Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether, same folder as settings.ini

Report : I got normal (>105 hunger) form of Wolfgang when opened the first clothing box and wear it when my hunger is 37 in version 152648. Is this fixed in version 152653?

 

Question : I wonder if daylight loving creatures only got awaken by the light source from ceiling. Could lantern or torch, even light flowers make them awaken?

Those backpacks... man I'm hyped as hell. Where did you find those Rezecib? I will have a look at the game files as well later today, haven't done it for quite some time now.

After placing a signpost I hit cancel to leave it blank. After I clicked it again to write something I got this crash:

And I got this second one as well at world generation, though I've had a few mods enabled but the error doesn't trace it back to any of them so I thought I'd post it as well just in case.

I put the consolecommands.lua where you specified it should be placed. The console keep on telling me that he doesn't know the function which I defined inside :-/

i don't know if im alone with this problem

 

but since last update i have some lags on my server

 

and the log.txt spam same message all times:

Is there any way i can revert back to the oct 8th update of both the game and dedicated server so i can continue playing as Maxwell from "more dst characters" (doesn't work with this clothes update) looked but cant find a way. thanks.

I have a problem which has been posted several times in these threads, with no specific answer. I'm using both a caves and an overworld server. They seem to connect fine to each other, but when my friend tried to enter the caves today, he got disconnected. I'm using different ports for both servers too. Here's the log for the main server:

@Sumwan I had the exact same issue last night (our server logs match almost exactly with the same failure code (163)). I searched all over the forums for a solution. I'm not sure exactly what fixed it for me, but I eventually got it working. The last thing I did before it finally worked was add in the steam authentication and master server ports, but I see you already have that. The only other major difference between our server.ini's is that I don't have a shard_id set on my main server. Try taking that out. Here are my ini's with the passwords blanked out for my own privacy:

@Xavven, It looks like the slave shard servers need Steam ports set, but the master shard apparently doesn't. Adding the two Steam port lines to both of my inis fixed it for me too.

 

In other news, I've also been getting the [WARNING]: Hash string lookup out of space message spammed in my logs, for an in-client server.

Floral Shirt sanity buff doesn't apply in the caves.  Haven't checked other sanity wears but will add them here if they don't apply either.

Daylight creatures don't react with other light sources. They seems only react with light from ceiling.

 

And piggies do never come out even with ceillight.

So how do the drops work? I played for a few hours and got 3 drops (two tweed waistcoats, one t-shirt), and played for another 2 hours today and got nothing. Based on the "heartbeat" stuff in the logs, I'm guessing it does a heartbeat every 6 minutes, then ... checks some condition (are you doing stuff in the next 10s or something), and rolls some dice, and if you get it, does some loot table calculation with the rarity tiers to determine what you get?

 

Right now the drop rate feels a bit low to me, at least based on what rarity tiers I happened to get, but I might've just had bad RNG. I could also see the drop rate being good for people who are playing a lot.

 

If there's significant stratification between rarity tiers then it seems like getting your inventory cluttered by common items could be a problem (one that trading doesn't solve). Maybe a system where you could sacrifice an item in return for better luck for the next drop or something?
