DatShadow was more correct in their analogy than you. (albeit redundant... :3) Prunes are dehydrated plums, and as such are shriveled. (therefore the redundancy in calling it a shriveled prune) Whereas coal isn't shriveled. Coal is compressed organic material that takes years to form in highly pressurized, low oxygenated environments. (which is fascinating because of bog bodies) Spoiler BTW, bog bodies are...well bodies of dead people that were left in a bog. The cool thing is that certain bogs, most often peat bogs, have certain acids which, in tandem with cold temperatures and low oxygen, serve to preserve the cadavers (sometimes perfectly). Given enough time/exposure, the cadaver will (essentially) be compressed enough to become coal. TL;DR/Translation: Spoiler VS.
